Seine häufigen Ausbrüche im Laufe der Geschichte haben die umliegende Landschaft verändert, manchmal tiefgreifend, und die in der Umgebung lebenden Bevölkerungen immer wieder bedroht. Das UNESCO-Komitee hat den Ätna in die Liste der Stätten aufgenommen, die das Weltkulturerbe bilden. Taormina ist eine sehr berühmte Touristenstadt und zugleich ein beliebtes Ziel für Künstler, Schriftsteller und Intellektuelle (unter anderem Goethe und Truman Capote, die dort weilten). Besonders beliebt ist sie nicht nur wegen ihrer landschaftlichen Schönheit und des fantastischen Panoramas, sondern auch wegen ihres „dolce vita“, ihrer Freizügigkeit und ihrer Grenzüberschreitungen. Sie haben die Möglichkeit, an einem Tag die Schönheiten unseres Vulkans und der herrlichen Taormina zu entdecken. Nach der Abholung in der Stadt CATANIA geht es los: Erste Etappe: Unser naturalistischer Führer führt Sie durch jahrhundertealte Wälder, exzentrische Krater und einzigartige Lavabildungen (normalerweise das Sartorius-Gebirge oder die 2002 an der Nordostseite des Ätna gebildeten Krater) in die faszinierende Welt der vulkanischen Phänomene. Zweiter Stopp: Sie erkunden eine Vulkanhöhle (zum Beispiel die "Grotta dei Ladroni" oder die "Cassone Cave"), die mit der erforderlichen Ausrüstung (Helme und Fackeln) ausgestattet ist. Im Winter wird der Besuch der Höhle nicht durchgeführt, wenn am Eingang viel Schnee oder Eis liegt, was den Eingang gefährlich machen würde. Dritte Stufe: Wenn die Wetterbedingungen es zulassen, haben Sie die Möglichkeit, einen typisch sizilianischen Snack zu sich zu nehmen. Ansonsten findet das Mittagessen in einem schönen Bergbauernhaus statt.
Vierte Station: Am Nachmittag erreichen Sie Taormina, wo Sie unabhängig voneinander den eleganten Kurs besuchen können, der die mittelalterlichen Stadttore Porta Catania und Messina trennt. Sie erhalten eine Karte mit allen Informationen zu den wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten. Der Führer erwartet Sie am Eingang der Stadt (hauptsächlich Fußgängerzone) für die Rückkehr nach Catania. Während des Ausfluges erreichen Sie eine maximale Höhe von 2000 Metern (Kompetenzbereich unserer Naturführer).

We had an absolutely exceptional experience visiting Mount Etna. It was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Mirco, stands out for his enormous sympathy, professionalism and knowledge. Always available and attentive, made the whole experience even more enriching and pleasant. This was an amazing and very informative tour. It was a little more challenging than I expected due to heavy snowfall on the volcano, but we were given boots and extra jackets if needed. The lunch and wine was fantastic! More food than we could eat!

Giovanni was an excellent and exuberant guide. So nice to have someone so passionate and knowledgeable about our 'adventure'. The trek up the 'craters' was a bit difficult ( 3 in their 60s and 1 70 y/o) but worth it. The lava tube was really cool. Even had a bat fly by our heads!! Food at the wine area was very good and varied with several local foods. Only issue was communication from Viator as to where to meet for the tour. Left several messages/emails and did not hear until the day before. This is unfortunately typical for Viator in my experience. Still I would highly recommend this tour and ask for Giovanni if possible.
