„The Sweet & Spicy Experience“ ist eine Reise in die Welt der beiden bekanntesten Lebensmittel Kalabriens: Die „Rote Dame“, die rote Zwiebel aus Tropea, und die „Königin Kalabriens“, die Nduja aus Spilinga. Zwei echte Stars in der Küche, die von den größten nationalen und internationalen Köchen geschätzt werden. Die „Cipolla Rossa“ aus Tropea, bekannt für ihre Süße, ist eine bescheidene Zutat der kalabrischen bäuerlichen Tradition mit zahlreichen heilenden Eigenschaften. Die Nduja, eine traditionelle, würzige Streichsalami mit einem intensiven und einzigartigen Geschmack, steht symbolisch für eine ganze Region. Im Rahmen der „Süß & Würzig“-Erlebnisse besuchen die Gäste eine Zwiebelfarm und eine Nduja-Manufaktur und lernen dabei alle Schritte der Landwirtschaft, die Produktionsmittel sowie den Lebenszyklus von Pflanzen und Tieren kennen. Lernen, wie man sie kombiniert und in der Küche einsetzt. Eine erlesene Auswahl beider Produkte direkt auf den Höfen verkosten.

We had a wonderful time visiting the onion farm and the Nduja plant. We learned all about how they harvest the seeds, plant and grow the onions, and why they are so different from other onions. At the Nduja plant we were able to go inside, with protective gear, and see them processing the meat, smoking the sausages, and packaging up everything for retail sales. It was very interesting to learn so much about the two specialties of Calabria. Enzo, our guide, is a gem and is very knowledgeable about the area.

Our tour was led by Enzo who made this experience worthwhile before we reached the Tropea Onion fields and the Nduja factory. The Tropean onions are unique and we learned why. Ndjua is delicious. Great to learn how its made and how to use it.
