Vraiment décevant !

The Bloedel Conservatory is located in one of Vancouver’s most beautiful settings, at the top of Queen Elizabeth Park. The gardens surrounding the conservatory are absolutely stunning, beautifully maintained, and filled with an incredible variety of flowers, plants, and colors. The conservatory itself is peaceful, lush, and visually impressive - a wonderful place to connect with nature. Unfortunately, my experience was overshadowed by the conditions in which some of the birds, particularly the cockatoos and macaws, are kept. As a farmer and an animal trainer & lover, I found it genuinely upsetting and shocking. These birds are among the most intelligent and social animals in the world, yet they appeared to have very little enrichment or stimulation. I noticed a lack of toys, mirrors, activities, and natural elements that would encourage them to engage in their normal behaviors. Some of the perches are made of metal, which is obviously not ideal for their feet over extended periods. Another aspect that I found particularly difficult to witness was that several of the larger birds appeared unable to fly. Whether this is due to wing clipping or other reasons, seeing magnificent birds such as macaws and cockatoos unable to take flight is heartbreaking. Flight is such a fundamental part of what these animals are, and watching them stuck and walk onto their one branch is just awful. For visitors, these birds may be a beautiful attraction, but they are also highly intelligent, sentient creatures whose physical and psychological needs deserve the highest level of care and consideration. And what makes it all even more disappointing is that there seems to be so much opportunity to do better. The conservatory is large, spacious, and high enough to create a far more enriching environment for these birds. With thoughtful improvements, additional climbing structures, natural perches, toys, and interactive enrichment, this space could be transformed into something truly exceptional for their welfare. I do though understand the desire to give visitors the opportunity to see exotic birds, but their well-being should always come first. If adequate physical and mental stimulation cannot be provided, I would honestly rather see the conservatory focus solely on its spectacular plant collection - or maybe have butterflies in there instead - than seeing what I saw. I still recommend visiting for the beauty of the gardens and the conservatory itself, which are genuinely outstanding. However, I sincerely hope management takes a fresh look at the needs of the birds in their care. A place as beautiful and respected as the Bloedel Conservatory has the potential to become a leader not only in horticulture, but also in animal welfare.

Affordable and well maintained conservatory

Admission was affordable, plenty of parking ( paid) located inside Queen Elizabeth Park. The park consists of colourful birds and flowers. The place is a small conservatory so manage your expectations accordingly. We did 5 rounds and the kids enjoyed the experience. We got a paper for a scavenger hunt at the entrance and kept exploring the place. Humid inside so dress in layers.

The tickets from Viator didn’t work

The tickets from Viator didn’t work. We had to purchase new tickets when we got to Bloedel reserve. They claim that they don’t use outside vendors.

Quick visit with nature.

While visiting the park we came in here to visit. Staff is very nice. Conservatory is relatively small and a quick walk through but the trees and plants and flowers are beautiful. Birds are beautiful. Little mice running around are so cute. It’s a little pricey for what it’s worth but still a good time.

Magicial fron 10 years ago when saw.

We never went as family was unable to line up to get together and difficult for the babies to get there. I asked for a refund and I believe I just got one. When the twins are older we will be there. Can't rate experience when we didn't go. Would have gone with family. I gave the experience a 5 as I have been there many moons ago.

Worth a visit! Relaxing and interesting

This is a lovely place to visit! It’s beautiful and fascinating. There’s quite a few exotic birds that are entertaining to observe and koi fish as well. We spent about an hour walking around and pausing to admire. I thought the price was reasonable and felt it was a good, low key way to spend some time

Bloedel Conservatory

It was much smaller than what I was expecting. I still enjoyed seeing the plants and the birds. A nice break from the cold weather and very relaxing.

Fun on a cool, wet day

Covered and heated conservatory on the hill overlooking downtown Vancouver. Good way to warm up in the tropics for half an hour. Lovely vegetation and exotic birds. Recommended for a quick visit.
