Das Audain Art Museum wurde 2016 eröffnet und wurde von Vancouver, dem Bauunternehmer und Philanthropen Michael Audain und seiner Frau Yoshiko Karasawa gegründet. Die 56.000 Quadratmeter große LEED-zertifizierte Struktur befindet sich in Whistler, British Columbia, und wurde vom preisgekrönten Architekturbüro Patkau Architects entworfen. Die permanente Sammlung des Museums zeigt die Kunst von British Columbia aus dem späten 18. Jahrhundert Jahrhundert zu präsentieren. Verankerung der Sammlung ist James Hart The Dance Screen (Der Schrei Too), der bedeutendste zeitgenössische geschnitzte Zeder Dance Screen in der Welt. Zu den weiteren Höhepunkten gehören eine bedeutende Sammlung von Masken der First Nations aus dem 19. und 20. Jahrhundert und Werke von einigen der berühmtesten Künstler Kanadas, darunter Emily Carr, E.J. Hughes und die international renommierten Foto-Konzeptualisten Jeff Wall und Stan Douglas. Neben der ständigen Sammlung hat das Museum auch Ausstellungen von Kunst aus Kanada und der ganzen Welt.

This was a wonderful unexpected surprise this gem of a museum has some fantastic art from Matisse, Picasso and local artist Emily Carr. I particularly liked seeing the photography too, particularly Ansel Adams. The entire museum including its stunning architecture is a must see.

With my 16-year-old daughter we spent 2.5 hours in the very beautiful architectural special museum that specializes in West Coast artists, first nation, painting, photography. Overall very diverse! Shop offers a wide range. No cafe.
Great art gallery / museum. On the smaller side, but a great chance to see beautiful Canadian works of art over this and the last Century and also masks and sculpture by first world people.
The Audain Museum was one of the highlights of our Whistler trip. Well worth the cost of admission and time required.
In stark contrast to Whistlers sporting fame, the gallery offers a contrast of pace and mood. A divers collection with something for everyone.
This was a beautiful gallery to visit. The art was all different, and well displayed, and it felt like each room had a surprise in it. Its right in the centre of Whistler so it was a good way to escape the heat and smoke.
Just the exterior itself is an architectural marvel and masterpiece. The exhibits inside are also just as exquisite. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Whistler especially during the summer season as the weather is warm and inviting. Love that this museum showcases the works of prominent Canadian artists!
