Tour guide was Fayoziddin. He was awesome! I daresay the best tour guide I had in Uzbekistan so I'm glad I saved best for last! He made jokes. His background is education and that showed through. He knew how to adapt his tour information. I loved when he gave us votes to how much time we wanted to take pictures so it felt that we were more involved in the day. I loved that he incorporated drink/food breaks and bathroom breaks instead of this push to not stop. The tour was a perfect 3 1/2 hours. He offered recommendations for other things to see in Samarkand, along with sending whatsapp recommendations for food. He was really great and engaging and made the insufferable heat tolerable while learning about the city and history.

We had a wonderful walking tour of Samarkand and really enjoyed the experience. Our guide Samandar was very friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the history and culture of the city. He shared a lot of interesting information and explained everything in a clear and engaging way. We especially appreciated that he sometimes repeated important details, as this made the information easier to remember. He was also very good at answering our questions and always took the time to explain things further when needed. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Samarkand. A great way to discover the city, understand its history, and see it through the eyes of someone who really knows and loves it!

Fayoziddin was a great guide - as a regular ‘free walking tour’ traveller, I found him to be interesting with his facts, but perhaps most importantly was well aware of how to keep a groups attention, and not fall into the trap many do of more information = better. You will need to pay entry for the first stop, however it is not too expensive, and then later on he will set you up to view the other attractions in Samarkand’s centre well in your own time and pace. Thoroughly recommend doing this tour as a recce of the area as the first thing you do, then having a 1/2 day or day afterwards to follow up in your own pace.
