Great tour with very insightful information! Was also great doing the later afternoon tour, because then we pretty much had the castle to ourselves before closing which was amazing!
We really enjoyed the tour. Alister was factual, we all learned something, he was funny, we all laughed at his silly comments, he was thoughtful, he made each of us as comfortable as possible. My favorite part of the tour is when he showed us the perfect place to take a picture of the castle from outside the gate walls. The kilt just added to the fun of the experience. I recommend this tour especially if you want to know a little about the history a little about the architecture and a little about the Scottish life while having a smile and laugh.
You need a guide to run you through the castle otherwize you will miss the best parts. He was great and very proud of his legacy. I would recommend this tour to anyone. Expecially if you love history.

The Edinburgh castle is a must when you are in Edinburgh and Alistair is defenitly the right guide for this. He was on time at the meeting place and toki well care of everyone. He was knowledable and entertaining.
AMAZJNG!! Alistair was incredible - native to Edinburgh, knowledgeable about the history as we entered the castle and REALLY brought the history of the caste itself to life. Tickets to the castle itself were sold out that day, so it was great to have that organized in advanced. He was thoughtful about pacing for some with limited mobility. He’s a solo proprietor and CLEARLY cares about each and every person on his tour.
Alistair is a brilliant guide with a wealth of historical information told in such an engaging and often humorous way. He's also just a really nice guy!

This was an excellent tour and my family loved it! Full disclosure: I didn't actually take the tour myself, because I wasn't able to travel with them. But I did quite a bit of research, read reviews, and arranged this tour on their behalf. That's always a somewhat nerve wracking endeavor for me, but especially when others are depending upon me to make the best choice. I was impressed by what reviewers had to say about this tour, and I loved the fact that the operator/guide is a Scottish local -- that seemed like an important factor to me. As expected, his insider knowledge and personal stories, along with a great sense of humor, made it so enjoyable and fun for them. They all said that they learned a lot as well. So that was a great relief! I have two more family members going to Edinburgh soon and they're planning to book this tour too.
