Die Tour beginnt mit einem Besuch in Pietermaritzburg , der Hauptstadt von KwaZulu Natal. Dort halten wir beim Rathaus von Pietermaritzburg, das das größte Backsteingebäude der südlichen Hemisphäre sein soll. Dort werden wir auch die Gandhi-Statue besuchen, bevor wir in Richtung der Drakensberge gehen. Kamberg Cave Art ist eine 90-minütige Wanderung und Wanderung vom Basislager entfernt. Die Tour beginnt mit einem Besuch in Pietermaritzburg, der Hauptstadt von KwaZulu Natal. Dort halten wir am Pietermaritzburger Rathaus, das angeblich das größte Ziegelgebäude der südlichen Hemisphäre ist. Dort besuchen wir auch die Gandhi-Statue, bevor wir uns den Drakensbergen zuwenden.
Unser Ziel ist das großartige UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe, die Drakensberge. Das Kamberg Nature Reserve wurde 1951 wegen seiner einzigartigen natürlichen Schönheit, Tierwelt und historischen Höhlenfelsstätten gegründet. Das Reservat verfügt über 6200 Hektar hügelige Berge und tiefe Täler mit einem umfangreichen Wander- und Wanderwegenetz. Die Wanderung zu den Höhlen der Rock Art ist mehr als 60 Minuten vom Camp entfernt und erfordert eine durchschnittliche Kondition, um sie abzuschließen. Die natürliche Landschaft bietet viele Felsunterkünfte mit San-Felsmalereien. Diese wurden von den Menschen in San über einen Zeitraum von mindestens 4000 Jahren geschaffen. Die Felsmalereien sind von herausragender Qualität und Vielfalt und repräsentieren das spirituelle Leben der Menschen von San, die nicht mehr in der Region leben.
Als nächstes ist die Nelson Mandela Capture Site Statue und das Apartheid Museum. The Capture Site verfügt über eine große Skulptur von Nelson Mandela, die aus mehreren Stahlsäulen besteht, die zwischen 6 und 9 Meter hoch sind. Touristen am Capture-Standort müssen sich 35 Meter von der großen Nelson-Mandela-Büste entfernt befinden, damit der Fokus klar wird. Nach Westen gerichtet, schafft die beeindruckende Skulptur eine einzigartige Landschaft für die örtliche Howick-Gemeinschaft. Das Museum ist Nelson Mandelas Leben und seinem Kampf gegen die Apartheid-Regierung gewidmet.
Nächster Halt wird die kleine Stadt Howick sein, um den Wasserfall zu besuchen. KwaNogqaza oder Howick Falls ist etwa 95 m hoch und liegt am Umgeni River. Das lokale Zulu-Volk nannte es das "Heim des Tall", was sich auf seine Höhe bezieht. Neben den Wasserfällen liegt ein malerischer alter Teil von Howick, in dem Sie eine Auswahl an historischen Museen und Antiquitätengeschäften finden können.

The guide Bule was great, super helpful and gave me many explanations. I am very happy with my experience and I would much recommend!
It was day full of adventures! From hiking up a mountain to refreshing sound of the waterfall. Bring lunch with you as you enjoy eating while on a scenic drive. Bule and Promise ( tour guides ) were amazing.
I did this tour with my best friend in March 2026 and enjoyed every bit. We especially love that they work with local people who know the area. Our driver, Buleh, was funny, considerate, and safe. He took great care of us and the long drive went by quickly because of the good conversation (and amapiano ;)). He has a natural sense for people and what they might need. It was also a treasure having Promise from the Kamberg Rock Art Centre show us around on the hike up to the San paintings. It's really nice to see 1st Zulu Safaris working with them, especially as I understand not many tour operators use the Kamberg guides when they do tours in the region. Overall, it was a long, tiring day, but worth it!
The day was full of experiences. Architecture, nature, hiking, waterfall, museum, history and ancient art - very varied program. You will be pleasantly tired by the end of the day and say 'It was worth doing it'. Not a lazy day:-). You go back 4 000 years in time... The cave paintings were the highlights of the day. Sotiris, our guide was helpful, informative and provided a pleasant day for us. We have good memories. Recommended.
Great, interesting. It's a pretty demanding one and a half hour climb up to the rock paintings, but you can go at your own pace. The area was pretty brown because it was almost winter, but that valley is very beautiful with green grass and flowers in the summertime.

A day tour with Fortune, who is very nice. Prepare for a long drive around 3.5hr to the mountain, but worthwhile. It is better to have the game pass with guide, so that you can go to the top and get some instructions on plants and culture. The museum at Mandela Capture site is beyond expectation, with clear history of ANC and Mandela, etc.

This tour is an amazing experience from start to finish! Our guide, Thami, is polite, warm, and enthusiastic. He arrives early for pick-up and provides detailed explanations at every stop. What stands out the most is his respectful and patient approach—he doesn’t ask personal questions and makes sure everyone feels comfortable throughout the journey without hesitation in providing assistance. The itinerary is well-planned, with a smooth flow between sites and well-timed stops. Even on weekends, there are no issues with site closures, making the trip hassle-free. This tour is highly recommended for history and nature lovers, offering a perfect blend of cultural significance and breathtaking landscapes. However, be prepared for nearly three hours of hiking in total.

Mandela capture site is well worth a visit. The drakensburg park is beautiful but the treck is not for the less able or older people
