Beschreibung
Die Diyaluma-Wasserfälle sind 220 m hoch und der zweithöchste Wasserfall in Sri Lanka sowie der 361. höchste Wasserfall der Welt. Sie liegen 6 km von Koslanda entfernt im Distrikt Badulla an der Autobahn Colombo-Badulla. Die Wasserfälle werden von Punagala Oya gebildet, einem Nebenfluss von Kuda Oya, der wiederum ein Nebenfluss von Kirindi Oya ist. Auf Singhalesisch bedeutet Diyaluma oder Diya Haluma "schneller Wasserfluss" oder kann als "flüssiges Licht" übersetzt werden. Laut dem srilankischen Historiker Dr. R. L. Brohier ist Diyaluma Schauplatz der Folklore über eine Tragödie, an der ein junger Häuptling beteiligt war, der ins Hochland verbannt worden war, und den Versuch seiner Verlobten, sich anzuschließen. Als alle Pässe bewacht waren, ließ der junge Mann ein Seil verdrehter Kriechpflanzen über die Böschung fallen, als sie hochgezogen wurde, wurde sie gegen die Felsen geschleudert und starb. Die Götter, die durch das erschütternde Schauspiel zum Mitleid bewegt wurden, ließen einen Wasserstrahl aus dem Berg sprudeln und alle Beweise für die Tragödie in einem wässrigen Licht verschleiern, daher der Begriff Diyaluma

Diyaluma Waterfall was the highlight of our trip to Ella. The hike was worth every step because the view at the top is unreal. The natural pool is crystal clear, cool, and perfect for swimming while looking over the entire valley. Bathing right under the waterfall felt so refreshing and peaceful. The guides were super helpful and made sure we stayed safe. If you love nature and a little adventure, this is a must-do in Sri Lanka. 10/10 would do it again.

I visited Diyaluma Waterfall with a group of friends, and it was an amazing experience from beginning to end. We had the most amazing day at the waterfall! Our guide Dila was so friendly, helpful and informative. He stopped along the way to show us pepper and coffee growing on the side of the road, along with the rubber trees. The waterfall itself is unbelievably beautiful and swimming our way down through the different pools was so much fun. Dila took lots of photos for us as well so we could just enjoy ourselves. It's a must do if you are staying in Ella. 10/10

We reached the base of the falls on our motorbike, (about an hour ride from Ella) and while searching for a parking spot, we were fortunate to meet Saman, who offered to guide us. He led us a bit further up the road, following him on his bike, to the best place to begin our hike, storing our jackets and helmets safely away so we wouldn't have to carry them. The trek was manageable, even in the heat of the late morning and Saman shared his impressive knowledge of local wildlife and fauna along the way. Conversation was easy and he has a great sense of humor. The falls themselves were stunning, undoubtedly the highlight of our Sri Lankan adventure so far. We took our time swimming, jumping, and sliding down the various levels of the falls, it’s quite easy to make a whole day of the trip. The final level offered spectacular views looking out over the last fall. Equally as impressive is the view looking back up the falls. Saman helped us to make the most of our visit to Diyaluna Falls and we would highly recommend him as a guide. His number is +94787784560

We had really good time, went to Diyaluma waterfall, Ravana waterfall and New Budha temple. The views were breathtaking. We enjoyed a lot. Dila was very helpful. Highly recommend!

The views at the falls were amazing, and we went during slow season so me and my friend could enjoy almost all the pools by ourselves, and the weather is perfect for an early morning tour. The drive was around 1hr each way, but the views there were so nice and we stopped to take plenty of photos. They were very flexible with us and agreed to come at 9am, instead of 8am as agreed.
