Disappointing

went via train from Melbourne CBD. Train fine but buses non exsitent at Werribee so forced to pay for taxi both ways. Not good.... Booked premium safari ride which was excellent although very cold when in centre of safari. when finished with safari went to other animal viewings, but long distance walking between each. so in the end, gave up and shortened trip, as children too tired. Disappointing visit

Fun up close look at the animals

We chose this tour to see that animals in an open range, not in cages. It did not disappoint. It was a wonderful tour

Wonderful experience and learnt a lot about the animals

Go early to avoid crowds especially on weekends. Went on the premium safari tour (18 persons). The vehicle can go off road so you get closer to the wildlife and it stops to take photos and we had a lovely young lady by the name of Ariel who explained so much, had funny stories to tell and knew all the main animals names. I throughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it. Of course I must advise though that because the vehicle was going off road it was a bumpy ride but was fine for me (even though I’m not young).

In a word, magical!

Our trip was the most magical experience, when compared to the zoo's I have visited across the globe. We had a tour guide, Claire. She was passionate which was absolutely contagious. Thank you so much for all your knowledge and love of the animals you care for and work with. Bless you x

Animal conservation at its best

Overnight glamping safari truly memorable - to experience the superbly designed and landscaped zoo with a sense of remoteness from mass tourism was beyond expectations. The relative freedom of animals and yet closeness for observation is a far cry from old images of imprisoned creatures. The enthusiasm and scholarship of the keepers reflected and communicated the extraordinary level of care and expertise in the conservation of animals, threatened in the wild. To watch a hippo at close hand, surfacing and submerging in its natural habitat, during a night safari in a small group, was a highlight. I’m so grateful to Rupert Hamer’s Victorian government buying the vast and historic Werribee Park estate in the 1970s for the pleasure and educational benefit of us all - and the conservation of animals.

You must experience an overnight stay here.

Last weekend my family attended the Werribee Open Range Zoo and stayed overnight on the Slumber Safari. A fabulous experience well worth five stars. Our main Tour Guides were Jay and Aron ( or Erin? Spelling?), plus Garry, a local volunteer. I’m 74 and mobility-impaired and Garry ferried me around on an electric buggy; he was wonderful and I would have struggled badly without him. Our Guides were caring, industrious, eager to explain everything and impart their knowledge of all the animals. Oh yes, all the animals were in large sometimes vast enclosures as close to their natural habitat as possible. No cages here. And the animals were treated superbly and overseen by vets on a regular basis. Our food at the Glamping huts was excellent and plentiful and the facilities and bedrooms spotlessly clean. Only two things the Zoo Management ought to note. First. The special car parking for the Slumber Safari guest was excellent and very close to the huts, but the Disabled Parking at the Main Entrance was pitiful. I counted only eight spaces - totally inadequate. I had to struggle nearly one kilometre on foot from the over-flow area. Second. The Glamping huts have canvas walls, for that “safari Look”. If there is ANY wind blowing they billow and snap all night, quite noisily. Consider bringing ear plugs or noise-cancelling headphones. Notwithstanding these two points, I’d highly recommend the Slumber Safari.
