Reiseverlauf

Our tour with the HQCompany was very good. I booked the reservation online and they were able to answer my questions by email before I made them. We did the full day tour of Omaha and Utah beaches. It included a visit to the American Cemetery and a lunch stop in a small town, I think it was Sainte-Mere-Eglise, with time to visit the Airborne Museum which was in the small town as well. Our guide was great! He took us to Omaha Beach first. Using the existing landscape, and photos and maps that he carried, told us of that fateful day. He had many facts and stories that he shared. Very knowledgeable. He was courteous and a safe driver. Our group was seven in a mini van. The cemetery was very moving and we spent probably about 45 minutes there, everyone exploring on their own. Then came the lunch stop. The Airborne Museum was fantastic! There were so many artifacts, displays and video presentations that you could spend an entire day. We had two hours total for lunch and the museum, so obviously I did not make it all the way through. Then we went to Utah Beach and then returned to Bayuex. My only negative comment is that to everyone there in Bayuex it seems that the meeting place for the Tours is easy to find. I'm not sure if we were tired or just not understanding what we were looking for....IT"S A PARKING LOT, it's not a place. The Place du Quebec is where all the excursions leave from, but I thought we were looking for a building or something.
Sophie was a fantastic guide! It was a small, intimate tour -- a van that fit 8 people including the guide (so our family of four and another family of three). We went to numerous sites, and Sophie provided knowledge, photos, and many interesting anecdotes about each: Omaha beach, the Normandy American Cemetery (overlooking Omaha beach), La Point du Hoc, Sainte-Mère-Église (including a museum and lunch), Utah beach, and Angoville-au-Plain Church (aka the medic's church, where two US Army medics setup a makeshift hospital for treating the wounded on both sides). We enjoyed the tour thoroughly. The timing at each location and amount of independent time was perfect. And Sophie also gave us great recommendations for later parts of our trip through Normandy.
This tour was excellent. Our guide, Paul, was extremely knowledgeable about the history and everything remotely related to the area. We asked lots of questions. Once or twice he said he didn’t know, so he was not claiming to know things he didn’t. He was also very personable, and everyone in the van became friendly with each other by the middle of the day. He made references to Band of Brothers many times, which we appreciated because all of us had seen it. As we drove from place to place he had a running narrative timed perfectly to fit the drive. It was hard to imagine the horror of what happened at Omaha Beach on D-Day because when we were there May 24 people were jogging or swimming and it was a beautiful day. Excellent tour, I highly recommend it.
Our full day tour if Omaha and Utah beaches was excellent in every way. Our guide Paul was highly knowledgeable, had an clear, friendly communication style and was very attentive to every guest
I really enjoyed the trip. I can highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in World War II or history in general. There was a wealth of information and interesting stories. However, the food situation was not the best thou the tour.
We had a wonderful day learning about D Day and seeing the American beaches with our guide Paul. He was very knowledgeable and personable, encouraged thoughtful discussions and ensured our family had an incredible experience. After learning that we have family ties to Bedford, he tailored the experience to discuss the Bedford Boys and answer any specific questions on that subject. When asked about her favorite part of the day, my mom simply said “Paul!”. Thank you to Paul and HQ Company Tour for a day of recognition and study.
Thank you for your wonderful review! We're delighted that you and your family enjoyed your day with Paul. He is passionate about sharing the history of D-Day, and we're glad he could make the experience even more meaningful by connecting it to your family's ties to Bedford and the story of the Bedford Boys. We'll be sure to pass along your kind words—especially your mom's comment that her favorite part of the day was "Paul!" It will make his day. Thank you for choosing HQ Company Tour! We had a great experience on the tour with Paul! He was very knowledgeable and passionate, answering all of the questions our group had. Saw amazing sights and learned a lot. Couldn’t recommend enough!
Had a great day with Yannick learning about the history of the D Day invasion. We visited Utah and Omaha Beaches as well as the American cemetery. Yannick is very knowledgeable and is a charming storyteller. Don’t miss this tour!
The two of us had a private 4 day tour organized by Sarah Kirksey, World War II Museum in New Orlean LA, who created for us an amazing itinerary. We feel extremely fortunate to have had Yannick as our host. He exceeded all expectations! We saw unique sites that we would have never had trying to tour on our own. Yannick is unbelievably knowledgeable on Normandy and history. He explained thoroughly where we had a visual which was at times very emotional. We look forward to returning and would have no other company other than HQ. Thank you Sarah Kirksey and Yannick Sterke! Ed Patrick and Wanda Cummings
