Confusing listing information and a very long hot day

Communication prior to starting the trip was confusing- we were asked to pay an additional €50 for transfers when they were included. We were then asked if we wanted tickets to Tut and Rameses tombs as extras- I checked the price of the tickets online and thought £12 for Tut and £5 for Rameses wasn’t too bad- so we said yes. Only to find out on the tour they wanted €25 pp for Tut and €15pp for Rameses. None of these prices are quoted on the Tripadvisor listing- and when I queried this I was sent screenshots of the listing in Viator which I hadn’t booked through. The day is very long- again the listing says 12hrs but it’s nearer 15. We packed a lot in but it was very hot- the hassle from unofficial guides at all of the sites means you cannot just enjoy the sites and stop and look- you are constantly asked for money or if you want a photo which spoils it somewhat. What we did see was amazing- we paid extra for the Nile Cruise €10pp which was good. Lunch was filling and plenty of choice. The guide Romani was very good- very enthusiastic and reasonably knowledgeable although some statements were fact checked and not quite right! Transparency around the costs of extras and the accurate length of the trip needs to be added. The whole experience about the extra costs cast a shadow over the day. Basically regardless of who you book through Get Your Guide, Viator etc you are all put on the same bus together!

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We truly appreciate both your positive comments and the areas you've highlighted for improvement. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the historical sites, the Nile cruise, the lunch, and that Romani's enthusiasm and dedication contributed positively to your experience. We sincerely apologize for the confusion regarding the additional services and optional entrance tickets. The prices for optional extras are determined by the supplier and may differ depending on the booking platform and the currency used. We understand how this could have been frustrating, and we appreciate your feedback regarding the need for clearer communication. We will review how this information is presented to help avoid any misunderstandings for future guests. Regarding the duration of the tour, while the scheduled sightseeing is approximately 12 hours, the total travel time can vary depending on hotel locations, traffic conditions, pickup routes, and operational circumstances, which may extend the overall day. We also understand your comments regarding the unofficial vendors and guides at the archaeological sites. Unfortunately, these individuals operate independently from our company and are beyond our control. However, we always advise our guests to politely decline any unwanted offers and follow the guidance of our tour guide throughout the visit. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, and we will use it to improve the clarity of our pre-tour information and overall guest experience. Thank you once again for choosing our tour, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again on a future visit to Egypt.

Amazing hotel ✅

We had a wonderful stay at Serenity Alma Heights and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. The hotel is beautiful, clean, and well organized. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, perfect for both families and couples looking for fun and relaxation. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and always smiling, which really makes a difference during the stay. The animation team was amazing – full of energy, always engaging with guests, and providing great activities during the day and entertaining shows at night. The aqua park and theme park are a big highlight of the hotel, especially for families with kids. There are many pools, slides, and activities, so you never feel bored.

A Memorable Day Trip to Luxor from Makadina

I thought this trip was fantastic and not to be missed. Communication was very clear using WhatsApp for updates on the morning pick up at my hotel Makadina Jaz. The drivers were friendly and we were provided with a breakfast croissant and a juice drink. The mini van was comfortable and we stopped half way on route for a break. They sold excellent cappuccinos! The guide was good but talked quite quickly so I had to really concentrate. The Karnak Temple was so impressive. No wonder it has been used as a great film location. Hard to believe it was built over 2,000 years ago. The trip also included an optional cruise on the Nile (€10) which is absolutely worth it, arriving to where we had a buffet lunch. The tour then continued to the Valley of the Kings and then onto Hatshpsot. Both very impressive to see. The mini van returned perfectly on time back to the hotel. One thing to note is to bring extra Euros (this seems to be the preferred currency) just to have handy, especially for the loos.

The excursion could be more lively and informative

We booked a small group excursion from Hurghada to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. 14 h became 15.5 h, of which pure driving time to and fro was 9 h. Mega busy day with many very nice impressions. Unfortunately, our guide was a little speechless and left the exploration to us partly on our own. At the last temple, he didn't even go there. Well, the car was dead silent with 8 guests and 2 drivers and two guides. Transfer worked very well though. Snacks and drinks were also distributed.

Too much too short

Not a bad trip for what it is. Long drive to and back in a Van with pretty uncomfortable seat arrangement and 100’s of checkpoint stops or the 45min wait to be able to leave Safaga city limits. An additional boat ride across the Nile for a surcharge we did not sign up for, the lunch that was quality wise below average and gave the both of us a hell of a heartburn. Leaving at 4am you get tho the vallley by 2pm after Karnak and sideswipe Luxor temple to my dismay. All the “activities” take time off the main visit to the tombs in the Valley. In the end we felt rushed through with very little time (8min per offered by the guide). I would have loved to spend a bit more time without the freight train walk like so many other visitors. It felt push and shove all day leaving 4pm back to Hurghada, the drive raising your neck hair as the guy behind the wheel seems to need to get home quick. Awful! We brought our own food from the hotel. Water is supplied but warm, refreshments not available or need to be bought from the “shops” they funnel you through ( selling mostly cheap tourist rubbish), also the 1h visit to a craft shop which again takes time off you signed up visit to the temple areas. All in all we had a mixed mood experience, but the disappointment overshadows the day trip. The guide made a good effort to explain a few things, but a good read in a history book would be a good lesson for him as some of the history facts mentioned were far from the truth or just plain fiction. Like Agamemnon. Greek … defeated Troy.:: not Egyptian from Luxor… just because of a statue on the West Bank. Had a brother too ..Menelaus, not Hector. See Greek scribble on his right foot. Would I do the trip again? Probably yes, but not with this mob.

Amazing experience

One of the best experiences in Egypt would highly recommend making the trip. Our tour guid was very knowledgeable and helpful. The bus journey was comfortable and the sights and history were amazing. It was still very hot so do take suncream and drink plenty. Good value for money.
