This trip was awesome! The people were friendly, the views were great and the buffet was delicious! For what we paid for it was definitely worth it! It started with a nice little hike to really get the blood flowing and then we started the waterfalls. It took maybe 3 hours in total.
I appreciated the other Trip Advisor reviews because they helped me know what to expect as the cruise description did not match reviews. Princess Cruises marked it as a moderate activity but it was definitely more active and those that are inactive would definitely struggle. We booked the VIP tour so the price of lockers and water shoes was included otherwise expect to pay $8 for a locker and you are required to wear a life vest and helmet for all jumps and slides. The hike is uphill for 45 minutes with frequent stops and water provided. The two guides were extremely amazing, friendly, and knowledgeable answering our questions and explaining the steps along the way. One person in our group has asthma that is triggered by the humidity and she was directed to a much shorter route with only a slight incline directly to the last spot. No one mentioned that in reviews so we were happy that was an option for her and had a pleasant surprise when she met us at the end. Like most said we didn’t humor slide through all of the waterfalls just those that were safest in the park. All of us were a little nervous going in but the water was refreshing after the warm hike. We only had a group of fifteen and one is a new swimmer. She was a well taken care of with guides at the top to reassure her and a guide at the bottom to make sure she was safe. It was a fantastic experience and all seven of us had a blast. We had a photographer along the way and we purchased the usb drive at the end for $55. A buffet style lunch was provided at the end with lots of meat eating and vegan options. The bus guide, Indiana and driver Arturo, were excellent. Indiana was so friendly, kind and had such a warm presence. She explained the city life, food and culture along the way from the port to the falls, and made sure we were taken care of before and after the hike. The whole day was so much more than we expected. Highly highly recommend!!
Booked the VIP waterfall trip through a cruise line. Included lockers, water shoes, lunch, and the ability to bring our own camera. They picked us up from the cruise port, the drive was about 30 minutes. When we arrived, we were all given locker keys, life jackets, and helmets. After we put everything away, they zip-tied our keys to our life jackets for us. We were separated into groups of about 12 and headed up the trail. As we entered the trail, we passed a trail rules sign that said you could not play music. I guess that did not apply to the photographer with our group, I believe his name was Nigel. He was playing obnoxious music on his phone the whole way up the mountain, only pausing it when he made videos of everyone walking by. We arrived at the top of the mountain and saw just how many people were ahead of us down in the water already. I would imagine over a thousand people go through here a day. The line moved steadily, and we didn’t have to wait long for our group's turn. A couple of sketchy ladders to climb down, but from the nearby debris, it appeared some of it had been replaced recently. The water was cold, but we quickly got used to it. We had a great time sliding down the rocks and walking through the river. The cliff jump was great, but the guides were sort of rushing everyone to go. After a short hike back, they cut our keys off for us and collected life jackets. There was a changing area, but no hooks on the wall or anywhere but the floor to put your stuff. It was also right next to the door, so anytime it opened, everyone outside could see you. I opted to change in a bathroom stall instead, so I could at least drape my towel and change of clothes on the door to keep them somewhat clean. Lunch had lots of options, I bit into my burger and found it was still mostly raw on the inside. After lunch, I tried to find a magnet with the name of the place on it, but they did not sell any. We also looked into buying the photos. I believe he said it was $45, but it was just a USB drive with all of the photos dumped on it. Nothing edited, and not just our photos. I don’t think anyone in our group bought them. The bus had us back at port just after 2 pm, which was our scheduled return time, so we had time to shop in port when we returned. If it weren’t for the photographer playing music and the raw burger, this would have been a 5-star review.
The best one You won't regret it, they also pick you up inside the port, with good van and wifi and air conditioning, they are the best without a doubt
The excursion was great. Great communication to find our driver Ronald. Waterfalls were great as well as the short stop at some local shops. The waterfalls themselves were great. I wouldn’t recommend the falls for people with bad mobility issues as there is about 30min of steep uphill climbing as well as steep ladders down to falls.
Walk in the middle of nature, very fun, although not very "free". It is quite full, organized: people make Indian queue, climb walking about 30min before reaching the first stretch with water, which is quite cool - a narrow with water to the waist or more, no alternative. After a few more drops, we slide down or jump, always through the water. Each can only pass 1x in each "slide" or jump, all in line. After another 20 min walk. We were surprised because even if they hadn’t made it clear, we stopped at a tourist goods store: stones, souvenirs, liquors and cigar confectionery. It was quick and interesting, but it wasn't our focus and I prefer the clearer things. Overall, it was a great walk and unforgettable in the family, with children 8-10 years old. Of course the Caribbean beaches are wonderful, but this was an alternative walk in the middle of the beaches, which is worth doing!
We had the most wonderful day with our tour guide Carlos. He was very easy to talk to and we learned a lot about everyday life in the Dominican Republic. We felt very safe in his care and he drove so responsibly. The waterfalls were absolutely amazingly beautiful and sliding and jumping down them was unforgettably fun. We highly recommend this excursion!
Picked up at the cruise port by Ronald an amazing driver.. he was on time and waiting for us when we disembarked.. took us to the village where we visited a cigar/gift shop on our way up to the waterfalls.. the experience at the waterfalls was spectacular all of the guides were extremely informative and helpful.. then when we left we stopped a authentic Dominican restaurant for some nice food before returning to the ship… absolutely recommend Ronald as a driver and tour guide..
Booked this thru Royal Caribbean, could be done a lot cheaper on your own. By the description the cruise company gave us, I assumed we would be hiking up to the falls, then change into our water shoes and bathing suits to swim in the pools and falls - nope. Had a strenuous 30 min hike in thin soled water shoes up the mountain, then halfway back down to slide down 3 falls. You plunge underwater on each slide and we got water up our nose each time. 3 days later, we’re sick as dogs with sinus infections? If you do this, be prepared for a long hike and get good shoes - like waterproof hiking shoes and either hold your nose or get nose plugs beforehand.
My party of 4 took the excursion Damajagua Fun Adrenaline Waterfall offered by Royal Caribbean for $73.99. It was amazing! The scenery was absolutely beautiful. I would definitely do it again, and highly recommend.
