You need a certain level of fitness walking around here. Interesting to learn (via audio) about the place with a small dinosaur section. The indoor stuff like holographic film and VR room, it has a strong musty smell to it. They do have some limited food options as well as a gift shop. Glad I came but with kids complaining about the drive from Cairns I doubt I will come back (with kids anyway)
Went with two kids aged 10 and 7. We did enjoy the walking tracks, but the cost to enter is too expensive, we didn't feel like it was worth what we had to pay at all. We had some sandwiches at the cafe which were ok, nothing great. We did see a small rat kangaroo which was nice, but other than that there were no other animals to be seen at all apart from the ones in the display cabinets (insects, fish) I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, it took a while to drive there and we had to also pay $50 for the ferry to get there so it was an expensive hour. I would have liked it a lot more if it was a more reasonable price for a family of 4.
Thanks for taking the time to review our Centre, your entry fee (Family pass of $100) not only ensures we remain open 364 days of the year but also contributes to Rainforest research and conservation. We are glad you enjoyed the Centre. Happy Holidays.
This was an over-priced, underwhelming experience. We had planned on doing the Jindalba boardwalk, but it was closed for upgrades. The only other option in this area was to pay for a walk through the rainforest at the Daintree Discovery Centre. You are given access to an audio guide, but the information is quite basic and mostly general knowledge. The tour/boardwalk feels very tired and outdated and we did feel ripped off by the end. We did enjoy the 3D theatre presentation given by a charismatic local indigenous guide. Unfortunately, I would not recommend a visit
Sorry this was your opinion of our Discovery Centre, we have invested in and updated the Centre immensely since Cyclone Jasper, including the hologram theatre, which we agree is wonderful. Your entry not only ensures we remain open 364 days of the year, but contributes to rainforest research and conservation. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in the Daintree.
Family of four, kids age 11+14 drove up from Port Douglass, trip started very well seeing a wild cassowary just off the carpark! Amazing. Friendly staff and helpful audio and print guides helped learn about the rainforest. Walked around the boardwalks and up the tower to the canopy. Found a little tree frog, saw an interesting spider and some cockatoos, lay down and looked up at the 500 yr old fig tree and really just enjoyed being in the forest. Probably spent ~2 hours there but you could do it much faster.
Thanks for the wonderful review, we are so pleased you all had a great time. Happy holidays.
Great centre to explain the rainforest's many features. The walkways are labelled with information about the trees in sight. The 3D experience was good and gave insight into the indigenous relationship to the forest. The cafe wad really appreciated too.
Thank you so much for visiting and for the lovely review. We are glad you had a great time, and hope you had a wonderful time in the Daintree.
Well worth it. Beautiful rainforest walks and my daughter loved the moving dinosaur exhibits. I especially liked all the unique plants!
Thank you so much, we really appreciate your visit and love that everyone had a wonderful time. Happy holidays.
I cannot recommend a visit to the Daintree Discovery Centre enough! We are a family that doesn’t like to to do tours or touristy things, so we had planned to skip it and just visit the Daintree on our own. It was a last second decision to pop in as we were driving by…and what a difference it made to our entire experience in the Daintree. We learned the history, so so many interesting facts, learned about plant and animal life, and so much more. Our 20 year old twins found it equally fascinating and we all agreed it was an excellent visit.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful review, we are really pleased your experience at the Discovery Centre made your time in the Daintree so much more enjoyable. We really appreciate your visit and hope you have a fabulous time in the Far North.
Incredibly informative site set in a beautiful part of the rainforest. It features as self-paced audio tour, so you can choose how much or little you do of it. Even without the audio part, there is an abundance of information. There is a rainforest floor walk, including information about dinosaurs and prehistory, an elevated walkway and a tower to the canopy - so this is a great chance to become familiar with all aspects of the Daintree. I would recommend putting aside at least a couple of hours for this activity. There is a cafe and gift shop, so no need to rush off.
Thank you so much for a wonderful review, we are so pleased you had a wonderful experience, and the time to take it all in. We hope you have a great holiday.
When we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely lady who explained everything we needed to know to enjoy our time. She was very knowledgeable. The pathed paths were super easy to follow and the knowledge you listen to on the audio allows you to immerse yourself into the forest. We also climbed the tower which takes you above the canopy to view everything from the bottom of the rainforest to the canopy level. Best time to visit would be spring when all the trees, palms and shrubs are flowering. Well worth the visit and the cost.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review, we are pleased you had a wonderful experience. Happy holidays.
Kids liked the dinosaur trail. But unfortunately not really worth the $100 entry it cost for our family. Kids got bored of the information hand held audio sets very quickly. We were through the walk in less than an hour. I would’ve preferred to just take a walk through the Daintree somewhere else for free. Considering you drive that far to get there. I would recommend to just continue driving further up to cape tribulation and you’ll see a lot of rainforest and beautiful beaches along the way. Spend your money at the delicious ice cream shop or the cafe along the drive.
Thanks for taking the time to review our Discovery Centre, sorry it wasn't for you but we are pleased the Jurassic Forest was a highlight for the kids. Our family pass is $95 for 2 Adults and ALL your children and entry is valid for 7 days, we hope you had a lovely time in the Daintree.
