Beschreibung

Educational, Entertaining and Recommend

Learning about arts, crafts, songs and stories of Māori was very interesting. Various family members presented during the evening and their pride and desire to share their culture was evident.

10/10 – An Incredible Cultural Experience in the Heart of Rotorua

10/10 – An Incredible Cultural Experience in the Heart of Rotorua Te Pā Tū was an absolutely incredible cultural experience — engaging, powerful, moving, and full of heart. I loved having the opportunity to learn how to use the poi and take part in the haka. It made the experience feel so interactive and gave me an even deeper appreciation for Māori culture. The hosts were genuinely wonderful people — funny, kind, caring, and incredibly welcoming. They created such a warm atmosphere and made the whole experience so much fun. The performances and singing were incredibly powerful. “Pōkarekare Ana” was especially moving — one of those moments where the whole room seemed to go quiet and simply take in the emotion and beauty of the performance. The food was another highlight. It felt deeply connected to Māori culture, with a sharing-style meal served around large tables. I really loved this because it encouraged everyone to connect, talk, and get to know the other guests on the tour. It made the evening feel less like a performance you were watching and more like an experience you were genuinely part of. This is easily a 10/10 experience and something I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Rotorua. An unforgettable evening filled with culture, connection, laughter, beautiful food, and powerful storytelling. we had a large group of just over 100 but the way you are spread out it does not feel that big, it is very intimate

Tourist trap - do not waste your money

We booked this based on both a positive write-up in a travel guide and the reviews on TripAdvisor. We had high hopes for an evening where we learned both more about the Maori people and their cuisine. Nope. This was a very expensive tourist trap. The pickup from the hotel was late, the "cultural experience" was definitely not educational (we learned so much more from the museums and other experiences around NZ), far too much time was spent trying to show off songs in other cultures/languages instead of focusing on sharing the Maori culture, and the food was not Maori cuisine. Even one of our other tour members asked where the banana leaves came from. They had no idea how to respond. The food was the equivalent of a Cheesecake Factory. Service was horrible. Rarely did anyone come along for drink refills. During the meal, no serving utensils were provided. You are seated with strangers at large tables where everyone is eating with their utensils and then using them to scoop out food from shared serving plates and bowls. Seriously?! I guess we learned nothing from COVID? Then they brought out pots of tea, but no tea cups. So people were chugging their water and cocktails and pouring hot tea into glasses. THEN they realized it and brought around tea cups - of course, by that time the tea pots were empty. At the end of this horrible evening, they completely forgot to provide dessert to our entire table. While everyone else was finished and headed back to the shuttle, our table was waiting on them to scramble to find dessert. We were frustrated and angry that we spent so much money and time on such a horrible tourist trap that we left and went back to the shuttle to wait. It was at least midnight before we got back. NEVER again. If you want to learn about the Maori people - and their cuisine - this is NOT the place to do it. There are far better places throughout New Zealand. Unless you are being paid to do so, I don't know why you'd ever give this a five-star review!

Highly recommend

Great way to spend an evening in Rotorua. Very informative about the Māori culture and customs. Food was great! The welcome and healing ceremony was very moving, and the singers’ voices were all amazing during the ceremony as well as during the performance after dinner.
