Die Story Bridge ist eine denkmalgeschützte freitragende Stahlbrücke, die den Brisbane River überspannt und den Fahrzeug-, Fahrrad- und Fußgängerverkehr zwischen den nördlichen und südlichen Vororten von Brisbane, Queensland, Australien, befördert. Es ist die längste freitragende Brücke Australiens. Die Straße über die Brücke heißt Bradfield Highway.

Die Kangaroo Point Cliffs wurden von Sträflingen geschaffen, die das Vulkangestein oder Ignimbrit bzw. geschweißten Tuffstein abbauten, aus dem die Klippen bestehen.[2] Diese Laven und pyroklastischen Gesteine wurden in der Trias vor etwa 230 Millionen Jahren abgelagert und füllten ein altes Flusstal. Diese Gesteine waren als Porphyr bekannt und wurden später als geologische Einheit namens Brisbane-Tuff bekannt.[3] Aus Aufzeichnungen geht hervor, dass es Kapitän Patrick Logan, Kommandant der Strafsiedlung Moreton Bay, war, der bereits 1826 als Erster einen Steinbruch eröffnete, um Stein für seine Bauwerke zu liefern. Steine aus dem Steinbruch wurden verwendet, um Teile des Brisbane River mit Mauern zu säumen, für den Manly Boat Harbour und den neuen Hafen von Brisbane. Der Steinbruch wurde 1976 endgültig geschlossen.[3]
Betrachten Sie Brisbane von oben mit einem nahezu 360-Grad-Blick auf die Stadt! Vor der Strafsiedlung in Moreton Bay war Mount Coot-tha die Heimat der Yugara-Aborigines. Die Aborigines kamen in die Gegend, um Ku-ta zu sammeln, das Yugarabul-Wort für Honig, der von der einheimischen stachellosen Biene produziert wurde. Im Jahr 1839 befreiten der Landvermesser James Warner und sein Team die Spitze des Berges von allen Bäumen bis auf einen großen Eukalyptusbaum. Da dieser einzelne Baum von vielen anderen Standorten aus sichtbar war, wurde er als trigonometrische Station für Vermessungsmessungen verwendet. Dies führte dazu, dass der Berg One Tree Hill genannt wurde. Im Jahr 1873 wurden die Wälder auf dem Berg zum Holzreservat erklärt, um Holz für das wachsende Eisenbahnnetz von Queensland zu liefern. Der Name Coot-tha ersetzte den Namen One Tree Hill, als das Gebiet im August 1883 zum Park erklärt wurde. Der Name wurde von Henry Wyatt Radford, dem Angestellten des Queensland Legislative Council, vorgeschlagen.
Wir werden hier zu Mittag essen und Zeit haben, durch die Gärten zu schlendern. Der Brisbane Botanic Gardens bietet eine Reihe von Attraktionen mit Pflanzen aus verschiedenen Landschaften, darunter ein tropisches Treibhaus, einen japanischen Garten, eine Trockenzone (Pflanzen aus Mittelamerika und Afrika) und eine Zone der pazifischen Inseln. Die Hauptausstellung ist die 27 Hektar große Ausstellung einheimischer australischer Pflanzen (mit Schwerpunkt auf Pflanzen aus Queensland) mit einer künstlichen Lagune.
Besuchen Sie das am längsten bestehende Koala-Schutzgebiet in Australien! Ein toller kleiner Zoo! Das Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary wurde 1927 vom Queenslander Claude Reid eröffnet. Wir eröffneten zunächst mit nur zwei Koalas, Jack und Jill, zu einer Zeit, als wilde Koalas für den Pelzhandel getötet wurden. Claude erkannte schnell, dass etwas getan werden musste, um zum Schutz einer der symbolträchtigsten Arten Australiens beizutragen. Das Heiligtum ist nach der riesigen Reifkiefer benannt, die noch heute an unserem Ticketeingang steht. Man sagt, dass die einzelne Kiefer einst als Standortmarkierung für Gäste diente, die das Heiligtum über den Brisbane River besuchten und ihre Boote an der „einsamen Kiefer“ festmachten. Der Baum wurde 1867 von Daniel Clarkson gepflanzt, als das Anwesen noch eine Baumwollfarm war.

What a wonderful day! Mark took us straight to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary before all the big tour buses arrived. We spent over two hours there and got to feed the kangaroos and touch the koala. It was getting very busy when we left. Lunch out was delicious and the views of Brisbane were spectacular. Thank you!

It was a difficult weather day, not the tour company’s fault obviously. Generally they did a good job improvising and making the best of it; however having better process over checking people in, who had bought lunch, who was not riding back, and the communication of where/when to meet could have been better. We would definitely do again, and felt it was still good value, despite Mother Nature raining on our parade!

Tania provided an excellent tour of Brisbane, including Mt. Coot-tha, the river area and bridge, and the botanical gardens where we had a good lunch. We ended the tour at the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where we fed the kangaroos and met an adorable koala. I highly recommend this tour for anyone traveling to Brisbane.

Had a wonderful time on this tour. While we left late due to one couple arriving well after the clearly stated time, Mark (our guide) did a great job rearranging our itinerary, so we were able to see everything we wanted to see. Loved the small van vs. the BIG bus you end up on when you book through the cruise line. We were able to hop off quickly at all the stops, spend an appropriate amount of time, and jump right back on. We could have spent less time at the Koala Sanctuary as most of the group were done under 2 hours (we were allotted 2.5 hours) so suggestion for future would be somehow predetermine how long the stay should be.

Great customer service from booking to return to the cruise terminal. Tanya is a great guide and driver, if you overlooked her dad jokes! 🤣 Lunch was very nice and tasty after our highlights tour and set us up nicely for the lone pine tree visit. Bottle of water provided which was very welcome on a hot day. The packet of crisps were the dogs B as it's been 6+ weeks since I last had a packet. To get a real personal service, do book this one.
