Der am Flussufer gelegene Königspalast ist die offizielle Residenz des kambodschanischen Königs und seiner Familie. Hier besuchen Sie eine Reihe kunstvoller und farbenfroher Gebäude mit goldenen Dächern und hohen Türmen, die großartige Beispiele klassischer Khmer-Architektur sind. Unsere Tour umfasst den Thronsaal, den Pavillon Napoleons III. und die Silberpagode mit ihrem silbernen Fliesenboden und erstaunlichen Artefakten. Ein Besuch des Palastes bietet einen interessanten Einblick in Kambodschas königliche Vergangenheit und den Reichtum der Khmer-Kunst und Handwerkskunst.
Das beeindruckende Unabhängigkeitsdenkmal im angkorianischen Stil wurde 1958 zur Erinnerung an Kambodschas Unabhängigkeit von seiner kolonialen Vergangenheit unter französischer Herrschaft im Jahr 1953 errichtet. Es befindet sich an einem großen Kreisverkehr an der Kreuzung zweier wichtiger Boulevards im Herzen der Stadt. Das Denkmal ist ein bemerkenswertes Wahrzeichen, ein Bezugspunkt und das Zentrum der Aktivitäten bei vielen nationalen Feierlichkeiten.
Tuol Sleng ist ein Museum, das den kambodschanischen Völkermord dokumentiert, den das Regime der Roten Khmer von 1975 bis 1979 begangen hat. Das Museum befindet sich auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen weiterführenden Schule, die von den Roten Khmer als Sicherheitsgefängnis 21 (S21) genutzt wurde. Ein Besuch dieses Museums und der eng damit verbundenen Killing Fields ist unerlässlich, um die herzzerreißenden und tragischen Ereignisse zu verstehen, die die moderne kambodschanische Gesellschaft geprägt haben. Toul Sleng war ein Ort der Inhaftierung, des Verhörs und der Folter, und sein Erhalt bewahrt Zeugnisse dieser jüngsten und tragischen Periode in der Geschichte Kambodschas. Der Besuch des Museums soll Besucher aus aller Welt ermutigen, sich für den Frieden einzusetzen.
Die Killing Fields sind Orte in Kambodscha, an denen die damalige Regierung unter der Führung der Roten Khmer und Premierminister Pol Pot insgesamt etwa 1,3 Millionen Menschen tötete und begrub. Diese schrecklichen Verbrechen gegen die Menschlichkeit sind als kambodschanischer Völkermord bekannt. Am berühmtesten ist Choeung Ek, ein ehemaliger Obstgarten etwa 15 km von Phnom Penh entfernt, der heute als Museum erhalten ist, damit Besucher erfahren und verstehen können, was während dieser tragischen Zeit geschah. Choeung Ek war eng mit dem Tuol Sleng-Gefangenenlager verbunden.
Der Zentralmarkt (Phsar Thmei) ist ein markantes Art-Deco-Gebäude in Form eines Kreuzes mit einer spektakulären Kuppel in der Mitte. Die vier Flügel des Kreuzes sind mit Ständen gefüllt, an denen Gold- und Silberschmuck, antike Münzen, gefälschte Markenuhren und Souvenirs verkauft werden. Es gibt Eisenwarenstände, einen Markt, Kleidung und Haushaltsgegenstände, Lebensmittelgeschäfte … eine riesige Produktpalette zum Verkauf. Dies ist ein beliebter Ort für Touristen, die stöbern, ein Schnäppchen machen oder Geschenke und Erinnerungsstücke für zu Hause kaufen möchten.
Wat Phnom ist ein buddhistischer Tempel, der auf einem baumbestandenen, künstlichen Hügel im Norden der Stadt errichtet wurde. Dies ist ein historisches und kulturelles Wahrzeichen und ein Ort der Ruhe in der geschäftigen Stadt. Die Hauptstupa thront spektakulär auf dem Hügel und beherbergt die Asche von König Ponhea Yat, der 1434 ankam und die Stadt Phnom Penh erbaute. Wat Phnom ist zu einer zentralen Attraktion der Stadt für Khmer und ausländische Besucher geworden und ist ein absolutes Muss, wenn man in Phnom Penh ist.

I booked a private tour, and everything was effortless. Sam and the driver were early/on time, and all costs were clearly stated up front. I had good communication beforehand via WhatsApp, and everything on the tour could be customized (e.g., due to hot temperatures, I asked to skip a site and go someplace else instead). Honestly, though, what made the tour the most special was chatting with Sam, who worked as a learning specialist prior to becoming a tour guide and is obviously from Cambodia. I can go and see sites myself, read books by myself, etc., but booking tours allows for interactions and learning I would not otherwise have. I highly recommend - and fun fact: as a parent of two, Sam knows just about every possible kid-oriented place/activity, including playgrounds by feature and ranking, around!

Had an amazing tour. Sam was very knowledgable and I learnt so much about the history of Cambodia. Visiting the killing fields and the prison, and learning about the historically recent genocide carried out by the Khmer Rouge is a very emotional part of the tour. However, I think it’s something we all should learn about. It’s very humbling. Also, I urge everybody to purchase a book or 2 from the people that are selling them at the killing fields and the prison. Still alive, and sitting in the very spot where they endured so much pain, so they can sell their story and perhaps make a few dollars in the process. I was on my own with Sam and a driver. Sam knew exactly what time to be where, and how to navigate the whole experience while avoiding all the crowds. I 100% recommend this tour. Tku Sam for an amazing day.

It was a wonderful day. There was a lot to cover but Sam was the perfect guide who made the day flow comfortably. The day was a mixture of wonderful sights and interesting history around the Palace and Temples, alongside the challenging and horrific story of the 1970's. The full day Phnom Penh City Tour was a great experience. Our guide Sam was fantastic and very knowledgeable. We had a great experience during the tour and especially visiting the Palace and Genocide Museum and Centre. I would recommend the tour to anyone visiting the city for a day as it covers all the major sites with Sam providing his knowledgeable perspective of the city. His assistant Michael was great too, and both are great.
