Very disappointing. The tour guide’s first words to us after we were seated in the van were “You will have to excuse my voice since I have a cold”. This when we were to spend the next 12 hours with him. He coughed regularly throughout the day. He gave us very little information while we were on the trip, either about the area we were traveling through or about the areas we visited. The listening devices we were provided were useless, even if he had been speaking, because they were full of static and interference. The promised boat tour did not happen, presumably because of sea conditions. We spent far too much time waiting for trains to take the place of the boat tour but the only explanation we got was “the boat is not available”. When we got to Pisa, the guide parked the van and told us to meet him there in 45 minutes. No information about the attractions, history, tickets, etc was given. We felt like we got a ride to the towns and almost nothing else of value. When we complained to the company, they gave us a partial refund of the cost of the tour. We could have found a less expensive way to get transportation or have found a guided tour that provided information as well as transportation. My advice: don’t waste your time and money on this tour.
Dear Douglas, thank you for sharing your feedback — even when critical, reviews like yours help us reflect and improve. We are sorry your day did not meet your expectations. As we discussed with you directly, our guide unfortunately woke up unwell that morning. With an early departure, a last-minute replacement was not possible — something we acknowledged openly and for which we offered a sincere apology. Regarding the ferry: the boat service at Riomaggiore, Manarola, and Vernazza operates from small exposed rock landings — not proper harbors. When sea conditions cause wave motion, the navigation company suspends boarding at those stops for passenger safety. This is entirely outside our control and is clearly disclosed on our booking page. The train connection is the standard alternative and was used as intended. We take your feedback about commentary quality and the audio devices seriously — these are areas where we hold ourselves to a high standard, and on this occasion that standard was not fully met. We addressed your concerns directly through our customer service channels and worked with you to find a resolution. We are proud of the hundreds of guests who travel with us each year and return home with wonderful memories of Tuscany and the Cinque Terre. We remain committed to delivering the experience we promise — informative, personal, and memorable. The Truescany Team
David was really nice, but he was under the weather and completely lost his voice by the end of the day. He distributed radio devices and headsets so we could hear him better, but the quality was really static-y, and we couldn’t hear him well through that, either. It was nice to have the tour company take care of the logistics of getting from Florence to Cinque Terre and between each of the towns, but we often felt rushed at each stop. That could have also been because our tour started late because there was a mixup with the van, and they had to go get a different one. I wish we would’ve been able to learn more about the towns and what we were seeing along the way, but David seemed to be less effective because of his illness. While I appreciate that he worked despite less than ideal circumstances, the company probably should’ve substituted drivers for the day because I feel we didn’t get the full experience we paid for — and I’m concerned we may also end up with the same sickness from being in an enclosed space with a guide who was coughing all day.
Lapo was a very good tour guide. He was knowledgeable and very friendly. The scenery was breathtaking and there was plenty of time at each location. Lapo also assisted with setting up a lunch reservation - one less thing to worry about.
Awesome experience! The tour was well organized, smooth, and overall awesome. Our guide, Giancarlo, was also great. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see Cinque Terre in a day and have all of the planning taken care of!
Our tour guide was very kind, however, I think he could have made this tour a little better by offering more insight. He took us to some nice spots, however, did not take us to the main popular viewpoints that I would have wanted to see. He could have pointed them out or made us aware of them and I would have happily walked to them. In Riomaggiore, he took us to a courtyard overlooking the water, but you couldn’t see much of the buildings which is one of the best parts in my opinion. The real viewpoint was right around the corner where you have a view of the bright and colorful buildings with the water. It was in so many of the tour photos so I thought we would be walking together there as a group. We only went to the courtyard and then went directly to the train to go to the next village. There was a viewpoint he took us to right by the train station but not nearly as pretty as the viewpoint in front of Riomaggiore would have been. In Manarola, I wish our tour guide would have informed us of the view from the top of the cliff side. I would have gladly walked up the hill for the view, but didn’t realize it until it was too late as we had to meet up for the boat ride to Vernazza. In Vernazza, our tour guide suggested a certain restaurant, but didn’t mention the expensive cover charge for eating there. Just would have been nice to know in advance. Overall, it was nice to be picked up and be taken around the villages without having to navigate on our own, but I am just sad that I missed the viewpoints I wanted to see the most. Maybe I should have gotten more clarity on my end, but I just thought our tour guide would have let us know.
Cinque Terre is a beautiful slice of heaven. Our tour guide, Marco, was fantastic! He was incredibly friendly and thoughtful. His knowledge of the area made this a 5 star experience.
This was a highlight of our trip to Italy! Marco picked us up from the meeting point at 7am and off we went. Only instead of silence in the van for the drive, which we shared with three other lovely travelers, he taught us all about the towns we passed so that by the end of the day we had seen and learned so much more than expected!! What a delightful tour to see Italy by car, train and ferry! Truly fabulous. Cinque Terre is beautiful and magical and a spot not to be missed. Marco got us safely to the three villages and then gave us 1-2 hours to explore on our own the shops, cafes and even beaches! We went in the water at all three places and climbed to the top of towers and sat in cafes by the marina. Something for everyone. The villages are as beautiful and picturesque as post cards. Do not miss this tour!! Pisa was also so neat to see - we had about 45 minutes and though we didn’t choose to climb the leaning tower, we toured the town and had gelato after taking pictures of it and the cathedral. It was a LOT of walking so wear comfortable shoes and light clothing if visiting in the summer. And bring a backpack with a bathing suit and towel and sunscreen to take advantage of small coves and beaches to cool off. Can’t thank Marco enough for these memories. He was personable, professional, passionate, knowledgeable, patient, proactive (even booked us a table at an outdoor cafe where we all chose to eat together and it was perfect!), and so eager to please. What an asset he is to this tour company.
Marco was a wonderful guide for our day trip to Cinque Terre and Pisa. He was knowledgeable and very friendly. He led our group through busy streets and towns with ease. He went above and beyond by arranging a lunch spot for the group. A great experience!
An amazing day!!! Probably the best day of our entire trip! It is well organized and our guide, Diana, was just the right amount of a guide and knew when to leave us be and let us explore! Such a beautiful corner of Italy!!
Claudius was an excellent guide! The drive to La Spezia is about 2 hours and he shared information about the regions along the way, and history of Florence & Pisa. Once we arrived at Riomaggiorre, he gave clear instructions on where to meet after we explored on our own. We decided as a group which train to take to Manarola and he had tickets ready when we met. Same process for meeting at the marina to take the boat to Vernazza. The different rides added to the experience! Had time for lunch and the kids to swim a little before taking a train back to Riomaggiorre. He was very helpful and always asked if we needed anything. The ride to Pisa is about an hour and he dropped us off close to the entrance. This tour allowed us to enjoy the sites and scenery without the hassle of figuring out directions and tickets. Highly recommend!
