Average experience

We went today to the cenote and chitchen itza with mayab tours. The tour cost £160 GBP per couple and we booked with s street vendor outside the ferry port in Cancun. We were told to be at our hotel lobby for 7am, the coach arrived at ten to. We hopped on board, all fine but at the next hotel was a 15 minute wait, of course things happen we were understanding. The next one and the one after was the same though, over an hour and a half waiting in total for people to board the coach! Eventually we set off, the staff were polite bringing us our sandwich bag we had paid extra for, no crisps or cookies as advertised just an apple (we paid for the deluxe package there was 3 types) First stop was a "Mayan village" (45 mins) there was not much there I was expecting ruins, huts and handmade trinkets but it was a shaman blessing gifts bought from the shop. The shop was really expensive (wait until chitchen itza, massive market) we were supposed to get a drink included but we weren't given our wrist bands in time so we had to wait until our next stop... Frustrating as we had stickers saying we had a deluxe package so we should've been able to grab a drink. We moved onto the cenote afterwards which was gorgeous but felt very rushed we only ended up with about 25 minutes in the water as we had to eat lunch get changed and get to the cenote and there was no time left. The buffet included wasn't to our taste, the nachos were stale, it was very much catered to Spanish and mexican tastes which of course we are in Mexico, so we just bought our own lunch (not expensive but not much choice) Our biggest issue and reason for the low mark really is the tour guide, I think it would've been excellent if you speak spanish. We were 4 of 6 English speaking individuals and for the first 45 minutes plus of the tour on the bus it was all Spanish speaking, we didn't get any information in English (he was bilingual) we got the odd sentence but we felt very left out. Yes we're in Mexico and it's a Spanish country, we're not being silly, but we paid the same as everyone else and literally knew nothing about where to go or what to do, where to get things etc...There was lots of jokes in Spanish and people laughing but we didn't get told the jokes in English so no idea what it was about. It felt very segregated and as though we were just a burden. After my friend complained, there was more English but up until actually pulling a staff member to the side to ask questions we knew absolutely nothing. Chitchen itza was fabulous, very informative this time! Take plenty of money and haggle, we got some lovely gifts. On the way home we stopped at a mexican town and got 25 minutes there, it was really pretty, not advertised on the tour. We actually paid for 2 cenotes but ended up at one. Things felt a bit back to front, for example we were walking around chitchen itza wet. We would've liked to go straight to chitchen itza, then the cenote and onto the town on the way back, this would make more sense to u, but there must be a reason things are done differently. More information in English and I would've given a higher score, overall definitely do the tour, it's very worth it, but look into other operators. The coach ride is 2 hours 35 mins from Cancun.

No show tour guide

The tour operator never showed up despite me calling to confirm the Day before. I called viztor to get refund s d they would not issue. I got a message saying call them directly which I did and wasted an hour of my vacation time. I will now be forced to. All my credit card to dispute transaction

Good Experience, just annoying moments overall worth it.

The first Shaman stop feels scammy. They have a shaman speak Mayan do a five minute ceremony and then you’re left to look at the gift store. I wish we didn’t do this. They took photos prior and put those photos on alcohol bottles to sell to us. Didn’t tell us beforehand could’ve not wasted their time by just asking who wanted one prior. Chichen Itza was good. The center was amazing and we had ample time to explore 2 hours. I would’ve preferred to spend longer at the cenote though. Also, the constant tip suggestions is kinda old either pay your employees more or raise the price of the tour. It’s clear tipping culture from America is trickling into Mexico, but not everyone is American.

Not enough time for Chichen Itza

Only 2 hours in Chichen Itza and it is almost the last thing you do, you go there from 14:30 till 16:30 when its closing. It would be better to have more time in Chichen Itza and not visit a “mayan market” for 1 hour where you only have souvenirs. It was nor great, nor terrible. We enjoyed Chichen Itza but the rest of the activities felt just like a time-filler and tourist scam. Also at the end you go to visit town Valladolid for only 20 minutes, whats the point in that? Food was below average
