We had a wonderful time on this excursion to Chichen Itza—it was absolutely worth the drive from our Cancun resort to experience such an incredible place. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided thoughtful context about the area, culture, and community, which really enhanced the experience. It was also a very relaxed and seamless way to visit Chichen Itza without the stress of figuring out tickets or navigating lines. Afterward, we visited Cenote Ik Kil. It was a bit crowded and the buffet was just okay, but the cenote itself is an unforgettable experience and well worth it—being in such a sacred place felt like a true honor. Our final stop was Valladolid for about 45 minutes, which didn’t feel like quite enough time, and my husband and I agreed we would have preferred to skip this stop. Overall, this was a great experience and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Dear Kimberly, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re happy to know you enjoyed the visit to Chichén Itzá, the guidance provided during the tour, and the overall organization of the day. The period you traveled with us was during the Christmas holiday season, which is one of the busiest times of the year in the area, and crowd levels are higher everywhere. Even under these conditions, our team always does its best to keep the experience smooth, relaxed, and enjoyable, and we’re glad this came through during your tour. We truly appreciate your feedback and your recommendation, as it helps future travelers and allows us to continue improving our service. Thank you for choosing OlMar Travel, and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you again on another adventure in Mexico. Best regards, The OlMar Travel Mexico Team
Chichen Itza was amazing… The tour itself- not so much. 80percent of the time on site was spent with everyone’s eyes glassed over listening to the guide ramble and draw things in the dirt. They should to over this in the bus on the way there rather than sleep, so people can enjoy the site. The guide stopped twice to go to the restroom while we finally had to pull over for 2 kids to pee in the grass. The lunch was great and town was a waste Book a shorter, cheaper tour with a meeting point. This is only called semi private to charge more… 2 hours to pick everyone up.
Dear Glen, Thank you for your feedback. We’d like to provide additional context for future travelers considering this experience. This tour is intentionally designed for guests who prefer a high-quality, small-group experience focused on comfort, learning, and efficient organization. Time at Chichen Itza is spent inside the archaeological site, with structured explanations that allow guests to fully understand the history and significance of the monuments — a key reason many travelers select this tour over faster, less guided options. Regarding transportation, your group had five hotel pick ups in total, including your hotel. The overall pick up process takes around one hour, as clearly stated in the tour details. Guests picked up earlier may perceive this as longer, which is standard for shared tours with hotel transportation. Brief transportation stops may occasionally be required on a full-day tour, particularly when traveling with families. These are handled efficiently and with guest comfort and safety in mind. While there are lower-priced tours available, they differ notably in structure and inclusions. Many include larger groups, commercial stops, additional entrance fees, shorter time at Chichen Itza, and limited cenote (not Ik KIl) visits. In contrast, our tour offers a semi-private format (up to 18 persons), no commercial stops, approximately three hours at Chichén Itzá, a visit to Ik Kil cenote with lunch and ample swimming time, lockers and life vests included, all entrance fees and taxes covered, and a dedicated English-speaking guide. This experience is best suited for travelers who value clarity in pricing, thoughtful pacing, and an immersive cultural experience. We always recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions prior to booking to ensure the tour aligns with personal travel preferences. Best regards, The OlMar Travel Mexico Team
The tour guide was nice. The lunch food was meh. We only got 30 minutes in Villadolid. It would’ve been nicer to have more time there. We paid $796.00 USD for four people. They wouldn’t refund us for my mom who woke up sick in the morning. Not even partial refund. When I called the office to inquire about a refund I was told the tour had already started so no refund, however, I had reported it to the driver first thing when he arrived. It’s an expensive tour at $199.00 per person. Not sure if it’s worth it. Other tour packages offer same activities. Our tour just seemed to have a minivan versus a large bus and hotel pickup. But $199?
Dear MaiLing, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad to hear you found the guide nice. Before booking, all guests are encouraged to review our cancellation and refund policy, which is clearly stated on the tour page. That policy applies in this case. Even so, we are always willing to look for solutions when we are informed in advance that a guest is unwell and unable to join the tour. In this situation, however, we were notified at 3:00 PM on the day of the tour that your mother did not attend. Unfortunately, this was not communicated before the tour, nor prior to pick up time. In such cases, the policy for cancellations made less than 24 hours before departure applies, and refunds cannot be issued. Additionally, this specific departure was scheduled for 17 guests (with a maximum group size of 18). We also had two guests on a waiting list, precisely in case someone could not attend. Had we been informed ahead of time, we could have offered the spot to another traveler and processed a refund for your mother. Unfortunately, last-minute notice made this impossible. Regarding the value of the tour: at this time, there are no equivalent tours on Viator offering the same conditions: a small group, no commercial stops, 3 hours at Chichen Itza, Ik Kil cenote with 2 hours including lunch, swimming, lockers, and life vests, all entrance fees and taxes included, no extra payments, and an English-only guide who does not switch between languages. If these elements are not a priority, we fully understand. We do offer more affordable options on larger buses, and there are other tours on Viator with different formats and price points. Ultimately, each traveler chooses what best suits their comfort level and budget. As for Valladolid, the 30-minute stop in the historic center is exactly as stated in the tour description and schedule. We appreciate your feedback and wish you the best in your future travels. Best regards, The OlMar Travel Mexico Team
Simon is extremely knowledgeable about the Maya civilization. We had a good time at Chichen Itza and the cenote. There were only 7 people in the group so the experience was very personal. If you live is Isla Mujeres / Costa Mujeres, the trip may start early (7am) as the tour may pick up people living in Hotel Zone or Playa del Carmen.
We booked the trip with our group of 8 and were more than satisfied! Everything was very well organized and we could enjoy the day all to ourselves. We would particularly like to highlight our guide Simon: He was super friendly and gave the trip a personal and very warm touch. His knowledge, patience and humour made the experience very special. If there were more stars, we would award them! An absolute recommendation – we would book again anytime.
our experience was very informative as for the history of the Mayan people and their culture. our tour guide was very knowledgeable of this subject. As for the tour itself, he arrived exactly on time and returned back to our hotel as advertised. our tour guide was friendly and accommodating and we cannot say enough compliments so far…
It’s a long day but worth it, the time at chicken itza was shorter than stated. manual our guide was terrific.
Abraham and Isai were awesome. They were kind and had a great sense of humor. We were told all about the area on the way and during. We learned so much and made sure that our unspoken needs were met.
Great experience. Louise was awesome. Picked us up in a comfortable SUV. Only two others with us. Very long drive for us to Chichen Itza but wasn't bad in the comfortable vehicle. Louise was very knowledgeable. The cenote was great. Very happy with the experiende and would highly recommend.
Complete tour of Chichen Itza (Northern, Central and Southern sections) with a knowledgable guide. We went to Saamal cenote, which was awesome. Spent time in central areas of Valladolid and it's famous street. Timing was great. No surprise shopping time or any time wasted. We really enjoyed our time.
