Catalina Island Bison-Expedition

It was great! We got to see bison and the cute foxes. Totally worth the experience.

It was a great tour. Rob provided us with awesome information about Catalina Island and the animals on the island. He was very funny and remembered everyone's home town visiting on our jeep.

An amazing experience driving around Catalina Island with great views and an excellent driver accompanying you. We also got lucky and saw a lot of bison, although even if you don't, the views are still worth the drive.

We had such an amazing time on our Catalina Island tour with Michael Cumberland! He was fantastic from start to finish and made the entire experience so much fun. Michael is incredibly knowledgeable about Catalina and shared so many interesting facts, stories, and little details about the island along the way. He has a great personality, kept everyone entertained, and you can tell he genuinely enjoys showing people around Catalina. The off-road portion of the tour was definitely a highlight! Riding through the interior of the island was such a fun adventure, and the scenery was absolutely beautiful. It totally reminded me of the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland! We were also lucky enough to see some bison and one super close up sitting in the road next to the vehicle! Between the incredible views, wildlife, history, and Michael's energy, soundtrack, and spectacular driving skills, this ended up being our favorite experiences of the entire trip hands down! If you're visiting Catalina and considering a tour, I highly recommend booking with Michael. He truly made the experience unforgettable and we had an absolute blast!

I’ve traveled to Catalina many times but this was the first time I’ve been on this excursion. Andrew was a great tour guide/driver and kept us entertained with his witty one-liners and his vast knowledge of the history of Catalina. We only caught a glimpse of one bison but the ride was worth the two hours. Be prepared for lots of dust, bumps, rocking, and rolling on the Humvee.

Rob made this a memorable, wonderful experience. His knowledge of the island, energy and attitude towards the guests (including my oft-scared 7 year old daughter), and general enthusiasm for nature (not just the Bison- he’s a lover of the environment overall; a true steward for our human civilization, and I mean that wholeheartedly) made for a wonderful time. In fact, the fact that we saw no less than 10 bison, including one laying & relaxing RIGHT next to the trail we drove on, was only ONE of the highlights. This was due to the fact Rob made every minute of the tour a worthwhile and fun experience. Will absolutely do it again and if you don’t see any on your tour, fear not; Make sure Rob is your guide and you won’t miss out whatsoever. Salute to you Rob, thanks for giving my family a memory we won’t forget.

This was a nice opportunity to see the interior of the island and get some views from elevation. We saw a few bison up on a range from about a mile away and understand it is hit or miss with that, but a little disappointing nonetheless given the name of the tour. Our guide offered some interesting facts and many inconsequential points which she repeated over and over. I felt the tour was rushed, and especially since we weren’t seeing wildlife it would have been nice to have a few photos ops at some of the more scenic points but we didn’t stop long enough(and often not at all) for that along the way. However, there was a somewhat long stop at the airport, which had no views, it seems for the sole purpose of buying snacks from the shop there. This may all vary greatly from guide to guide, but overall I feel like we might have been able to spend our money differently for a better experience. After all was said and done, I was a little confused at how highly rated this tour is.
