Vom Herzl-Platz und der Großen Synagoge beginnen wir den geführten Spaziergang durch das jüdische Viertel, einschließlich der wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten des Ghettos der Stadt aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg von 1944.
Stoppen Sie an der Synagoge in der Dohány-Straße, auch bekannt als die Große Synagoge, ein historisches Gebäude in Erzsébetváros, dem 7. Bezirk von Budapest, Ungarn. Halt an der maurischen Synagoge Rumbach Sebestyén utca wurde 1872 vom österreichischen Sezessionsarchitekten Otto Wagner für die Gemeinde der „gemäßigten Konservativen“ erbaut. Die Innenausstattung erstrahlt nach dem längst überfälligen Facelift in ihrem alten, anmutigen Glanz. Während des Krieges half der Schweizer Diplomat Carl Lutz, Zehntausende Juden in Budapest vor Verfolgung und Deportation zu retten. Im Bereich des ehemaligen Budapester Ghettos befindet sich ein Denkmal, das seiner Erinnerung gewidmet ist.
In einer kleinen Seitenstraße befindet sich die orthodoxe Synagoge von Budapest. Die orthodoxe Synagoge wurde 1913 in damals sehr modernem Design erbaut. Es hat einen späten Jugendstil-Touch und ist durchgehend in hellen Farben dekoriert. Die Glasfenster in der Decke wurden von Miksa Róth entworfen.
Wir zollen dem Denkmal „Schuhe auf der Donaubank“, das am 16. April 2005 zum Gedenken an die jüdischen Opfer, die im Zweiten Weltkrieg an diesem Ort ermordet wurden, enthüllt wurde, unseren Respekt. Sie wurden gezwungen, ihre Schuhe auszuziehen, bevor sie am Flussufer erschossen wurden, ihre Leichen wurden von der Donau weggetragen. Die Skulptur, die die zurückgelassenen Schuhe zeigt, steht als ergreifendes Symbol für Verlust und Erinnerung.
Gegen Ende des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurden die Budapester Juden in ein Ghetto getrieben, und ein kleiner Teil der Ghettomauer steht immer noch im Herzen von Budapest. Kommen Sie mit und entdecken Sie die Geheimnisse des Ghettos, das Leben seiner Insassen und ihr Schicksal.

Julia is extremely knowledgeable and easy to talk to while we walked around the Jewish Quarter. She provided us with a wonderful overview of many historical facts during the tour. The places she took us to were very interesting and we felt that we got an exceptional and memorable picture of the history and lives of Jews in Budapest.
I had an incredible experience with Petra as my tour guide in Budapest. She arrived at my hotel right on time and was extremely informative. Her knowledge of the Jewish history in Budapest was outstanding. She took me to the Great Synagogue and several other synagogues, explaining everything in deep detail.
