Auf dem Universitätsplatz, dem Herzen der Revolution von 1989, stehen Sie dort, wo Rumäniens Freiheitskampf gewaltsam wurde. Hier riskierten Demonstranten alles, Kugeln rissen durch Menschenmengen und Ceaușescus Herrschaft begann zu kollabieren. Hier erforschen Sie die letzten Jahre seiner Herrschaft – geprägt von Paranoia, rücksichtsloser Politik und landesweiter Not. Aber die Revolution war nicht nur ein spontaner Aufstand. Die vierte Station führt durch die restaurierte Altstadt, die nur noch einen Bruchteil ihrer vorkommunistischen Größe hat. Inmitten eleganter Paläste aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, byzantinischer Kirchen und Bohème-Cafés verweilen Spuren der Geschichte. Viele dieser architektonischen Juwelen wurden wieder aufgebaut oder restauriert, um Einschusslöcher und soziale Narben zu reparieren, die Jahrzehnte nach dem Fall des Kommunismus noch immer bestehen.
Die letzte Station führt Sie ins Herz des ehemaligen kommunistischen Bürgerzentrums – dem Verfassungsplatz, auf dem sich der kolossale Parlamentspalast befindet, das zweitgrößte Gebäude der Welt nach dem Pentagon. Seine dunkle Geschichte wird Sie faszinieren, aber noch keine Spoiler. Wissen Sie nur eines: Es verbirgt sieben unterirdische Stockwerke, Atombunker und ein geheimes Netzwerk von Tunneln darunter. Nachdem Sie das imposante Äußere des Palastes besichtigt haben, führt Sie Ihr Guide zurück in die Altstadt, wo die Tour endet."

This used to be known as the Palace Square until they changed the name in 1989. Today it is surrounded by the National Museum of Art of Romania, the Athenaeum concert hall, the University of Bucharest library, and the Athénée Palace Hotel. There's a modern monument raised in its center that looks like a potato on a stick. This square is associated with the end of the communist regime in Romania. It's where the then Communist leader Ceauşescu delivered his final speech in December 1989 that caused a popular revolt leading to the end of the communist rule. So there's really much more to see in this place than meets the eye. Some knowledge about Romanian history helps you appreciate this square more.

Mihai’s warm welcome really set the tone of the the day. He is extremely knowledgable and personable. You will get out of this tour as much or as little as you like and his real skill is tailoring the experience into what you want to get out of it as he has a natural ability to adapt to the audience. As a keen historian, this tour was absolutely perfect for me as he engaged in discussion and sharing opinions with me, as opposed to a pre made speech which other guides would give. The private tour of communism was amazing. Our guide Andra met us at our hotel lobby so we did not have to locate a separate location. Andra was very informative and honest. She shared many first hand personal experiences from her family life. This approach made the experience come alive. She planned the walking tour in a very sequential manner helping us to understand how the rule of communism affected the population. At the conclusion of the tour she asked how she could help us. As a result she walked with us to our next location. We highly recommend this tour and Andra as a guide. Worth every penny. You won’t be disappointed.
