Fort James, benannt nach König James II von England, wurde im 18. Jahrhundert erbaut, weil die Briten eine Invasion der Franzosen befürchteten. Diese Festung wurde strategisch gebaut, um den Eingang des St. John's Harbour zu bewachen. Es war mit 36 Kanonen bewaffnet und hatte eine Kaserne mit 75 Mann. Einige der Kanonen sind noch in den Ruinen dieser Festung zu sehen.
Die erste Kathedrale wurde 1681 erbaut, eine einfache Holzkonstruktion. Dies wurde 1745 ersetzt, nachdem es durch ein Erdbeben schwer beschädigt wurde. Die heutige Struktur wurde 1845 erbaut.

The city is dirty and smelly. There are spots of interest such as VC Bird bust, Heritage quay, the museum of Antigua, recreation ground, the craft and veggie market and more.
We’re truly sorry to hear that certain aspects of the city did not meet your expectations. Viator says 2.5/3hrs tour, it's not clear. The operator Blondel said 2.5hrs. Viator said to me that I was able to stop and see the Antigua Museum, St John's Cathedral, other churches, Heritage Quay, the vegetable market, Fort James. I expressed asked to Viator if I was going inside these attractions and I have been told yes. Blondel looked in hurry, wanted to do 2.5hrs showing me everything from the car. I said to her that the website said to stop and show me. Then she stopped but in the Museum and in St John's Cathedral she left me going alone. So I didn't have anyone explains to me. In the museum she came shouting in front of the lady who works there moaning that I was taking too much time, but she didn't agree with me how long I should stay in the first place. She has been rude, she recognised that and she started to recover the situation but it was too late. She messed up my tour. She stopped to Fort James. She stopped to the moulin where the sugar was worked. She didn't stop to the vegetable market, she didn't stop to Heritage Quay. I wanted to buy some gifts, I couldn't. She passed by the Prime Minister statue and I had to do the picture inside the car, because she said that she couldn't stop and get the ticket from the police. The tour is impossible in 2.5hrs so it's not worthy the money and the experience. Not completely satisfied witth the tour and the customer service. Viator wasn't cleared about the tour and Blondel she shouldn't behave in that way treatment me poorly.

I had the same driver from the Island tour and was extremely happy. Excellent trip to St. John's and toured around and in the city. Went to St. James fort, the various churches and the hub of the city. He is extremely knowledgeable. Well worth the knowledgeable you gain about the city. Chance to see the everyday person activity. Worth the trip and not real hot in the morning.

We had a great time. Our driver was prompt and had a wealth of knowledge about the island. He pointed out many interesting sites as we drove to and around Saint Johns. We told him we were interested in some local food and he took us to what he called the best local restaurant called Global Garden. When we got back to the hotel a number of the locals said they ate there a day or two before. Would highly recommend the trip.
