Belsh ist eine kleine, malerische Stadt in Zentralalbanien, die vor allem für ihre ruhige Naturlandschaft bekannt ist, die von der umliegenden Dumre-Hochebene und einem Netzwerk von 84 Karstseen definiert wird. Südwestlich von Elbasan gelegen, ist die Stadt entlang des Ufers des Belsh Lake gebaut und bietet einen ruhigen Rückzugsort für Naturliebhaber. Majestätisch auf einem felsigen Hügel gelegen, ist die Burg Berat eine Zitadelle mit Ursprung im 4. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Das Onufri National Iconographic Museum ist ein nationales Museum in Berat, Albanien, das sich der byzantinischen und postbyzantinischen religiösen Kunst widmet. Das Museum wurde zu Ehren von Onufri, einem berühmten albanischen Ikonenmaler aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, benannt und befindet sich in der historischen Kathedrale der Mariä-Entschlafung, innerhalb der Mauern der Burg Berat.

Die Sufi Lodge wurde für ihre atemberaubende Inneneinrichtung gefeiert, darunter eine aufwendig bemalte Holzdecke, die mit 14 Karat Gold verziert ist. Die Tekke ist ein bedeutendes Kulturdenkmal Albaniens und zeugt vom reichen islamischen und architektonischen Kulturerbe der Region.
Die Gorica-Brücke ist eine historische Steinbrücke aus osmanischer Zeit in Berat, Albanien und gilt als Symbol der Stadt. Der elegante siebenbogige Bau überspannt den Osum-Fluss und ist eine wichtige Verbindung zwischen dem überwiegend muslimischen Mangalem und den christlichen Gorica-Vierteln.

If you want to immerse yourself in Albanian history and culture in a short amount of time, I highly recommend booking with Ilir Gramo. I spent two full days with him visiting Berat and Shkodër and was blown away by his depth of knowledge. He has a way of sharing the country's complex history and culture that is incredibly engaging and insightful. Ilir is also wonderfully flexible and friendly. He is happy to move at your pace, and for those who enjoy it, he will ensure there is plenty of time to shop for local crafts and souvenirs. During our group tour to Berat, there were only two of us, and despite us being quite camera-shy and 'unphotogenic,' he managed to capture many fantastic photos of us. He is an excellent tour guide, photographer and a true professional. Whether you are looking to see the capital or the surrounding cities, Ilir is the perfect guide.

My wife and I toured Berat with Ilir. Both the fortress and our guide highlighted the day. The fortress tells the history of Albania in a nutshell, reflecting the multiple rulers, the role of religion and the personality of the people that results. Ilir also shines. Like all memorable guides, he comes across as affable, skillful, knowledgeable and passionate both about the topic and about guiding. He really brought to life the icons of Onufri Museum which even after years of viewing them, I had never truly appreciated. Ilir similarly fanned my enthusiasm for relics such as the “Purple Bible” as well as the lively history of Albania. Ilir also provides commentary about Albanian life and culture on a comfortable drive from Tiranë. An enjoyable day and highly recommended. As an added plus, Ilir takes beautiful pictures.
