Sogar traditionelle Ladenhäuser verkaufen köstliches Straßenessen, wobei ihre Tische bis auf den Bürgersteig reichen. Ein weiterer Vorteil? Selbst das berühmteste und beste Straßenessen in Bangkok ist normalerweise äußerst erschwinglich und macht gleichzeitig keine Kompromisse bei Geschmack, Menge oder Qualität des Essens. Das Viertel Samphanthawong ist mit seinen vielen Straßenimbissbuden einer von Bangkoks verborgenen Schätzen. Das Gebiet, das an Chinatown angrenzt, ist seit den frühen Tagen Bangkoks eine chinesische Gemeinde. Es gibt eine große Auswahl an Speisen, Kulturen und lokalem Leben.
Wir machen eine Pause für ein Erinnerungsfoto am Odeon Circle, der „Drachenkopf“ genannt wird, weil er der Anfang von Yaowarat war, das „Drachenstraße“ genannt wurde. Der Odeon Circle oder Wongwian Odeon ist die Kreuzung der thailändisch-chinesischen Straßen Yaowarat, Charoen Krung und Tri Mit oder Mittaphap. Der Kreisverkehr erhielt seinen Namen von einem Kino in der Gegend, das Ende der 1980er Jahre abgerissen wurde. In der Mitte des Kreisverkehrs befand sich ursprünglich ein Brunnen, bis er 1999 durch das chinesische Tor ersetzt wurde. Auf beiden Seiten des Tors ist sowohl in thailändischen als auch in chinesischen Buchstaben eingraviert, was bedeutet: „Das Tor erinnert an den 6. Zyklus-Jahrestag des Geburtstags Seiner Majestät des Königs“. Das Tor wurde am 5. Dezember 1999 offiziell von Prinzessin Sirindhorn eröffnet, die die Zeremonie leitete.

Elena was a fantastic guide - warm, knowledgeable and with a great sense of humour. We visited some hidden gems as well as some popular street food stands. It was a great introduction to Thai street food culture and gave us the confidence to be a bit more adventurous with our choices. Knowing what food to try can be overwhelming. This tour definitely helped with that. Had a great time walking around Chinatown and trying different dishes. Our guide Elena was absolutely amazing. She explained us about Thai culture, the food, life in Thailand, and everything in between. It was much more than just trying food, it was a cultural experience. If you are like me, and you like trying local dishes, this is for you! I wouldn’t recommend it to people with dietary restrictions. The dishes go way beyond the typical pad Thai. We tried so much I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. The tour was well paced and we tried a total of 11-12 dishes, from Michelin graded to sweet ones at the end. We just didn’t keep going because we were full haha once again, I can’t emphasize enough how good Elena was. Fun, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. 100% worth it!

For my last night in Bangkok I booked the tour last minute and much to my chagrin I missed the last time, but with quick thinking I managed to get a private tour with guide Enjoy, and enjoy food did I do! By the end of the tour I was begging for the food to stop because I was so full. Enjoy took me to popular Michelin star restaurants with ease and also mom and pop stands and the food did not disappoint! She was charismatic, funny and just a joy to speak with/share her culture with me. In the near future I shall definitely return with a bigger appetite and also more people so they could bask in the awesomeness that was Enjoy!

A great experience. Elena was a lovely host and was enthusiastic when giving her explanations of Thai food and culture.
