1782 verlegte König Rama I. die Hauptstadt von Thonburi über den Fluss nach Bangkok und errichtete den Großen Palast neben Wat Pho. 1788 befahl er den Bau und die Renovierung der alten Tempelanlage von Wat Pho, die inzwischen baufällig geworden war. Die sumpfige und unebene Anlage wurde vor Baubeginn entwässert und verfüllt. Während seines Baus initiierte Rama I auch ein Projekt zur Entfernung von Buddha-Bildern aus verlassenen Tempeln in Ayutthaya, Sukhothai und anderen Orten in Thailand. Viele dieser Buddha-Bilder wurden im Wat Pho aufbewahrt. Darunter befinden sich die Überreste eines riesigen Buddha-Bildes aus Ayuthayas Wat Phra Si Sanphet wurde 1767 von den Burmesen zerstört und diese wurden in einen Chedi des Komplexes integriert. Der Wiederaufbau dauerte über sieben Jahre. Im Jahr 1801, zwölf Jahre nach Beginn der Arbeiten, wurde der neue Tempelkomplex in Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklavas umbenannt.
Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan ist ein buddhistischer Tempel (Wat) im Stadtteil Bangkok Yai in Bangkok, Thailand, am Westufer von Thonburi am Chao Phraya. Der Tempel leitet seinen Namen vom hinduistischen Gott Aruna ab, der oft als Strahlen der aufgehenden Sonne dargestellt wird. Wat Arun gehört zu den bekanntesten Wahrzeichen Thailands. Das erste Licht des Morgens reflektiert die Oberfläche des Tempels mit perlmuttartigem Schillern. Obwohl der Tempel mindestens seit dem 17. Jahrhundert existiert, wurden seine markanten Spitzen im frühen 19. Jahrhundert während der Regierungszeit von König Rama II. Erbaut.

Everything was excellent. Our guide, Mina is great
This was a great way to explore the temples. Our guide (Sunny) was really good and kept things moving at a good pace. Our tour included a tuk tuk ride and boat ride together with walking. Just to note that this is a reasonably long tour (5 ish hours) and does not include a food stop). Having said that, a number of people, that had not read the information sent, did request a stop for lunch and our guide accommodated this (with the buy in of all participants) and took us to a local eatery where the food was very good and very inexpensive. We particularly liked Wat Pho (the reclining Buddha). Our guide was also very good at making sure everyone was able to get back to their hotels. Just to note, this tour does not end where it starts but the end location is right at a taxi station, tuk tuk station and the underground/metro. We would highly recommend this tour.

It was just the two of us on a personal tour. I was also very familiar with Japanese history and it was easy to understand the explanation while comparing with Thailand
