Das Atommuseum ist eines von wenigen privaten Nationalmuseen und zeigt einige der seltensten Artefakte im Zusammenhang mit dem Atomtestprogramm des Landes. Nirgendwo sonst kann man einen großen Kernreaktor sehen, der bei der Entwicklung der Atomrakete und der ersten Luft-Luft-Rakete, Genie, verwendet wurde. Persönliche Atomwaffen, die als Ersatz für konventionelle Waffen wie die Backpack Nuke und das Davy Crockett Weapon System (rückstoßfreie Waffe) entwickelt wurden, sind in den 8.000 Quadratmeter großen Museumsausstellungen ausgestellt.
Die Mission der Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation besteht darin, die mit dem Nevada Test Site und dem Atomwaffenprogramm des Landes verbundene Geschichte zu bewahren und den öffentlichen Zugang dazu zu fördern. Die NTS Historical Foundation fördert und unterstützt kulturelle, pädagogische und wissenschaftliche Programme, um die Entwicklung und den öffentlichen Meinungsaustausch über das Nevada Test Site und seine Auswirkungen auf die Nation zu fördern. Das Hauptprogramm der Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation ist das National Atomic Testing Museum. Das National Atomic Testing Museum wurde im Dezember 2012 zum privaten Nationalmuseum erklärt und hat vom Kongress den Auftrag, die Geschichte des Atomtestprogramms des Landes zu bewahren und die Öffentlichkeit darüber aufzuklären. Das Museum unterstützt auch die Mission der Nevada Test Site Historical Foundation.

The attraction office had no record of my ticket purchase. If I hadn't had my phone, which operated poorly in the desert, I would not have gotten in. The staff was gracious, but the system did not appear to be arranged for the ease of online registration guests.

The exhibits are highly educational, with interactive displays that are particularly compelling for high school students studying chemistry and physics. The focus on historical Nevada testing projects provides a stark look at the public's lack of awareness during that era. However, the experience leaves a sobering impression, raising unsettling questions about whether the cleanup of nuclear debris at these test sites was ever truly completed.

If you have nothing else on your schedule, you can spend 1-2 hours here (although the admission fee is a bit high for that). Pros: - very good knowledge transfer (also interactive) - historical photos and depictions provide a good impression. - historically very interesting Cons: - I missed a critical examination (radiation victims, nuclear waste, consequences of the tests for people and the environment). It is not about a judgment - nuclear energy has brought both positive and negative things to humanity, which in my opinion belongs there.
