The afternoon hike was hard - more water was needed (stock up!) but the views were great and we were really lucky with the weather. Our guide Rey was great and really informative about the formation of the volcano and the effect on local landscape and the population. He airdropped great photos that he took of gorgeous birds. much appreciated. The fresh fruit and biscuits at the end were great. Would do this hike again but maybe take walking poles and extra water. We were disappointed that we weren't going to some of the 'posher' hot springs but Paradise was actually lovely and the buffet dinner was not bad either - we were starving after our very busy day! We didn't need all the time allocated at the springs so we let Rey know and jumped an Uber back to our hotel. Great tour.
Victor is funny and very knowledgeable guide. He knows lot about volcano and la fortuna. He didn’t make us rush went with slow pace. I went alone but in our group we had 2 elderly people and he made sure they are comfortable all the time. If someone is looking for passionate, knowledgeable and slow pace hike to volcano then victor is the person.
This was an amazing hike, very easy for families, not too steep, and long enough to get good exercise. We had a great tour guide as well. Ecoterra is really a great company we had also gone on the Sloth Tour a different day, which was similarly excellent
Beautiful hike to the top, appropriate shoes and comfortable clothes is a must. Guide is very informative.
The attention the driver and the guide give you is amazing. They are very friendly and have no problem to stop to explain anything you ask them.
Our family of four (two adults and two teens) chose this hike out of the many available near Arenal because it seemed to offer more time walking on the actual lava flows than many of the other options. That turned out to be a really good decision; on the morning of our hike, Arenal was completely hidden in the clouds, so getting to walk on the lava absolutely saved this volcanic hike for us. Our guide was engaging and informative although, interestingly, he saved his most interesting material (about the history of Arenal’s eruptions and how they changed the volcano itself, as well as the surrounding communities) until very near the end of the hike. The hike takes place on the grounds of a preserve that abuts the national park. When we were there (early morning), the trails were pretty crowded with other groups. The hike up to the vista was fairly steep and required good shoes and stamina. Walking on the lava was a really neat experience, but the terrain was (obviously) quite rocky and some parts became very slippery in the rain. It was still fully accessible for our family, but there were some seniors on our tour who struggled in some areas. Overall, we would definitely recommend this hike as a way to experience Arenal, even on days when the volcano itself completely disappears into the clouds.
We had a great guide and enjoyed learning more about the volcano, but the hike itself was both 1) somewhat difficult and 2) somewhat underwhelming. It was a steep hike to an overlook, but not a much better view than the parking lot. Our guide was great about telling us the history and the context, but I'm not sure we would do the hike again. The hot springs (at Paradise Hot Springs) were a lovely way to end the day. The pools were great and it was nice to have a variety of pools. The dinner buffet was fine but not fantastic. We did like that there was live music.
Tour to Arenal volcano. Advertised as a 3:30 hour was less than 3 hours. Tour guide Cathy was excellent, but she could have been better with a microphone. We reached over 2000 feet had had great views of the surrounding valleys.
It was a great experience. The guides were very informative and fun. Ended the tour with fruits and snacks!
The morning we had our hike it was beyond pouring rain!! Jasmine our tour guide did a great job despite the weather. She was interesting and very nice. The hike was good but I would consider it to be challenging for some because it does have elevation. Also on the way down you are on a path with lava rocks. It is not a smooth flat walk on this tour We enjoyed it and so glad we went even with the rain
