Marten was very knowledgeable and extremely flexible. He tailored our excursion to meet our requests and would change whenever we saw something that was of interest. My granddaughter and I both loved our tour, so I recommend him for people of all age groups.
Martin was excellent! He was very knowledgeable and professional. The experience was very moving and educational.
Marten was an incredible guide. It was a very moving experience. I highly recommend him. He is not just a tour guide, but also an historian. You are sure to learn a lot.
Carolina had a lot of knowledge about the city and it's history. She was early for the tour and provided great historical and cultural context.
Marten was truly a wonderful tour guide. He told the story of Amsterdam’s golden age and the impact WWII had on the Jewish community who lived as well as the current impacts of COVID. It was an enlightening and emotional tour. We discussed a range of things from architecture, art, and economics. Marten was very kind and open to all our questions and curiosities, it felt like getting to take a walk with my history professor. You should absolutely take his tour, I know I will when I visit again. Thank you Marten!
The description is misleading as it included “Anne Frank museum” (her picture is on the Advertisement for the tour contributing to the confusion) leading one to believe it includes a tour of the Anne Frank House but it does not. That is why we purchased the tour and we’re disappointed that it was not part of the tour. The description says it ends at the Anne Frank house (admission not included) which I interpreted to mean that I would need to pay the extra price for admission which I was fine with. However, tickets to the museum must be purchased separately and several weeks in advance. Be aware if your desire is to tour the Anne Frank House and don’t make the same mistake I did.
Dear Scott, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your experience on the "Anne Frank and Jewish Culture Private Walking Tour in Amsterdam." We appreciate your input, and we want to address your concerns. We apologize for any confusion regarding the inclusion of the Anne Frank House in the tour description. We understand that this could have led to unmet expectations, and we genuinely regret any disappointment you experienced. The tour description mentioning that it ends at the Anne Frank House without admission included is intended to clarify that the museum tickets need to be purchased separately and well in advance, given its popularity. However, we acknowledge that this could have been clearer, and we will work on improving the description to avoid any misunderstanding in the future. Your feedback is essential to us, and it helps us enhance the clarity of our offerings. If you have any further comments or suggestions, please feel free to share them with us. We appreciate your understanding, and we hope you had a meaningful experience exploring the Jewish culture in Amsterdam despite the confusion. Best regards, Withlocals team
Our guide Ari was very knowledgeable and helped us understand the area as well as the subject of what it was like for Jews. He adjusted his schedule to meet ours and made it very interesting!
We had a very informative tour. Marten has a thorough knowledge of Amsterdam and his knowledge of the history of the Jews during the war years is incredible
Tour guide 45 minutes late. During the tour, she walked fast ahead of us in spite of being asked to slow down multiple times and tended to go 6-10 feet ahead of us. She walked in busy bike paths when there was sidewalk and she crossed against red lights with traffic, left us on the other side while we waited to be safe with crossing busy intersections. She was asked to speak next to us so we could hear her better and she did not. She had to be asked to stop so we could take photos. She pointed out the buildings and was repeatedly asked to discuss architectural and historical information, she did not. When directly asked questions she was evasive or said that she did know. Based on the information from you website we did not go in any of the free stops along the way and some facilities were closed due to her being late. In fact, she was unsure what the tour was to include until we showed her the printout of trip expectations from the website.
Hi there, at Withlocals we want our guests to have the best experience of their trip so we are very disappointed to find out about your negative tour experience. As we cannot directly get in touch with you from here, please email us at info@withlocals.com and we will make sure to follow up on this issue. We are looking forward to your email. Thank you in advance. Have a great day, Withlocals
I have long been interested in Anne Frank and have read her diary several times, visited the Anne Frank House and Museum, and seen films and documentaries. Because I wanted more in depth information, I signed up for a walking tour of the neighborhood where the Franks lived prior to going into hiding. The tour was given by Rian Verhoeven , an author who has done extensive original research and has published books on the subject. Among the sights I saw were the apartment building where the Franks lived in Amsterdam after leaving Germany, the Montessori school Anne attended, and even the shop where her diary was purchased. Rian discussed Anne, her family, and the others in the Secret Annex within the context of the German occupation of the Netherlands and its effect on the Dutch Jewish community. Rian answered my many questions in copious detail based on her considerable knowledge. I highly recommend this tour even to those, like me, who are already well familiar with the story of Anne.
