Buyongdae ist eine ca. 64 m hohe Klippe, an der das Taebaeksan-Gebirge endet. Vom Gipfel aus kann man das Dorf Hahoe in Andong aus der Vogelperspektive betrachten. Der Name stammt aus einer alten chinesischen Geschichte. Der Name Buyongdae bedeutet Lotus und soll für die Konfiguration des Hahoe Village wie eine Lotusblume verwendet werden. So kann man von der Klippe aus den besten Blick auf das Dorf bekommen. In der Nähe von Buyongdae befinden sich das Ogyeonjeongsa House, das Gyeomamjeongsa House und die Hwacheon Seowon Academy.
Das Hahoe Mask Museum befindet sich im Dorf Andong Hahoe, das sowohl zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe als auch zum wichtigen Folklorematerial Nr. 122 gehört. Das Hahoe Village ist eine repräsentative traditionelle koreanische Volksstadt und die Heimat der Hahoe Mask (National Treasure Nr. 121). und der Byeolsin Gut Maskentanz (Wichtige immaterielle Kulturgüter Nr. 69). Das Museum zeigt nicht nur Hahoe-Masken, sondern auch andere traditionelle Masken aus der ganzen Welt. Das Museum besteht aus fünf permanenten Ausstellungshallen und einer speziellen Ausstellungshalle, in der neben Hahoe-Masken auch eine breite Palette von Masken aus aller Welt ausgestellt sind. Das Museum bietet auch Aktivitätsprogramme wie das Tragen einer Maske, Maskentrickkunst, Fotozone und vieles mehr.
Byeongsanseowon ist eine konfuzianische Schule, die von angesehenen konfuzianischen Gelehrten ins Leben gerufen wurde, um das Andenken an Seong-nyong Yu (1542-1607) zu würdigen, der für seine Schriften und Persönlichkeit geschätzt wurde. Seine Leichentafel ist in dieser Schule aufbewahrt. Um die Zeit von 1863 hatten die konfuzianischen Schulen unter der Joseon-Herrschaft viele Freiheiten, Schüler und Gelehrte der Schule waren von Steuern und anderen Kosten befreit. Byeongsan Seowon war einer von 47 Orten in ganz Korea und zwei in Andong, die während der Herrschaft von Daewongun [Politiker der kaiserlichen Familie Joseon, 1820 ~ 1898] im Jahr 1868 nicht zerstört wurden. Der Fluss Nakdong-gang liegt direkt vor der Konfuzianischen Akademie. Überqueren Sie den Fluss und der Berg Byeongsan kann gefunden werden. Durch die Bildung einer Faltwandform rund um die Akademie schützen die Berge die Umgebung und verleihen ihr eine heitere Schönheit.

We had a fantastic day out with Kim. From the timely pickup (I know our hotel wasn't the best known place) to the dropoff, it was all smooth and well planned. We visited all points of interest in Hahoe area with Kim's story telling of the folk village, the village viewpoint and the Confucian Academy - two UNESCO world heritage sites on one day - with plenty of time to browse the town and the museum on our own . Kim also treated us to local apple bread and encouraged us to order soy sauce chicken/ mackerel combo for lunch, which we didn't get a chance to do anywhere else during our trip to South Korea after so we are glad we did. Not to mention his safe driving from 7:30am to basically 8pm. When you spend that much time together in a car, you get into a somewhat intimate or private conversation about somewhat intimate or private topics like family choices, politics, even religion. I'm sure Kim wouldn't have forced us into those convos, but seeing our openness (my husband is actually keen to talk about these things) Kim shared a lot of his perspectives on the topics, which was very interesting and insightful. It was a meaningful day out for us.

it is a long drive form Seoul, so be prepared to have a drive for .5 hours. we did it private, so it was fine

Nice place to visit but it is a long way from Seoul so be prepared for a long day. Trip was nice in a very good car. Our guide was a former military officer and we had a lot of good discussions. His English was very good. Overall a very good experience. We had lunch of Mackerel that was delicious and local apples that are out of this world good. Great day in andong.

Jimmy is a knowledgeable and easy going guide who has a very comfortable people mover van for napping on the way home. I had lots of questions about Korean life and history which he was able to answer. Going to these tourist spots in winter meant we had the places almost to ourselves, just dress warmly and wear good walking shoes in case of ice.
