Take a private tour if possible - the site and museum are rich in history, archaeology, and culture and more time is needed than available through the cruise ship tour. As you walk through the site, your appreciation for the ancient history grows. When you enter the ancient stadium, you can feel the excitement of others. The museum is filled with ancient treasures and you are kind of rushed through with a tour so miss absorbing some of the culture and sites. Very much worth a visit if you can only go on an arranged tour but I think it would be better experienced on a private tour.

We visited from a cruise ship. It was very easy to take the public bus from the port to the site. It did get a little touchy on the way back as a lot of people were trying to get on the 4pm return bus. It is $8 euro round trip so well worth it. The site is pretty amazing they are working to restore some of the ruins, this was an opportunity to see it. I did feel overrun by tour groups in the museum, they were basically wall to wall so it would be nice to have a few less tour groups in the museum at once.

Standing in the actual stadium where athletes competed over 2,700 years ago, walking through the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, seeing where the Olympic flame is still lit today — it connects you to something much larger than yourself.

I strongly advise to never use Viator if you are coming from a cruise ship or unless your local and know you will for sure make it to port for the exact date and time. Our cruise ship had to swap port dates due to a tug boat operator strike which we were told is a monthly occurrence by a local. Viator would not change the ticket date even though they were contacted 4 days prior. Ticket was no date change non refundable. When we went into town we were told that there was no reason they should not have been able to change the date for the ticket so we lost a total of $300 in tickets for the 2 ports that were swapped. No refund NOTHING. No trying to help just it is what it is attitude when I called. Will never use Viator again. Had I just booked it through the cruiseline our tickets would have been date switched as all those people and even other excursion companies helped their customers and they were able to see the sites.

Exceeded all our expectations! The site was within walking distance of our hotel. The ruins and grounds beautiful maintained an lots of shade. The temple of Zeus was fantastic , there were many beautiful views of the ruins including signs in English and Greek describing them. The stadium where the Olympic games were held was marvelous with hills surrounding it with seating for thousands, We spent several hours there and still did not see it all, Well worth the Trip. Go early as it did get quite crowded as the morning wore on. The museum had many fine items all lot of them complete. Sculptures artifacts you name it was there, On a trip filled with wonders this was by far our favorite place,

This was a nice experience and very interesting to learn about the history of the area. Give yourself ample time to walk around both spaces and be sure to protect yourself from the sun because there is not much shade outside. The museum is a nice excape from the heat and had beautiful artifacts to explore.

It is a mistake to assume that the significance of this landmark, which is listed in the UNESCO honours list, is limited only to the theme of sport. Visiting Ancient Olympia was like stepping back in time. The museum is packed with amazing artifacts. Everything is well laid out and easy to follow, with good signs and helpful info in English. The archaeological site itself is massive and really impressive. Walking through the ruins of the Temple of Zeus and standing on the original Olympic track was surreal. It’s mostly outdoors, so bring water and wear good shoes especially in summer. Overall, it’s a fascinating and memorable place. Whether you’re into history or just curious, it’s totally worth the trip. Purchasing the tickets via Viator made it one step easier.
