Our guide Giannis was knowledgeable and engaging. He easily captured the attention of our 3 boys (6, 9 and 12), explained in relatable terms, was patient and answered their many questions.
When we first got to the gate we looked for our guide, but he didn't have a sign or any identifying information to let us know it was him. Our entry to the site was not included in the costly price of the short informational we received. While the archeologist was knowledgeable, my friend and I were rushed through the sight, barely having time to question anything, no time to look at anything but what he rushed us through. We originally had a time for 12:30, but our guide changed it to 2:30, while the site closed at 3:30. We had absolutely no time to look around at a reasonable pace. We were rushed out due to closing, leaving us no time to look at the gift shop, either. Very disappointing, very expensive for what we received.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. I would like to clarify a few points for future guests. As clearly stated in the tour description on Viator, entrance tickets to the archaeological site are not included in the tour price. This information is provided before booking, and none of my previous guests have expressed confusion regarding this policy. Regarding the tour timing, the starting time was adjusted in advance and communicated accordingly. The tour was conducted within the available visiting hours of the archaeological site. My goal is always to provide guests with a comprehensive archaeological interpretation of Akrotiri, highlighting its most significant features while allowing time for questions and discussion. I am pleased that you found the archaeological information valuable and recognized my expertise as an archaeologist. However, I regret that you felt rushed during your visit. I strive to offer every guest an engaging and memorable experience, as reflected in the many positive reviews I have received from previous visitors. I appreciate your feedback and will take it into consideration as I continue to improve the experience for future guests. Kind regards, Your guide Giannis
Giannis is extremely knowledgeable and gave us a well informed, energetically entertaining tour through Akrotiri’s archaeological insights. Highly recommend!
We had a great tour with Mircina! She was very knowledgeable and took great care in highlighting key details. Don’t hesitate to book and ask for her!
Our guided tour of Akrotiri was a huge highlight of our trip, and I cannot praise Ioannis enough. He was such an amazing guide, it was so cool to have someone leading us who actually worked on the dig. He was so informative, and his presentation was fascinating. We cannot thank him enough and I would recommend him to everyone considering it?
Awesome tour, 5 stars! Would recommend Giannis
This was one of the most fascinating tours we did on our trip to Greece. I highly recommend Giannis as he is so knowledgeable and we learned so much about the history of Akrotiri and Santorini. You should follow this visit with a trip to the Museum of Prehistoric Thira to see the frescoes and objects they recovered from the site.
This was the best money we spent in all of Santorini. Ioannis was a magnificent tour guide who with all his archeological experience, including having worked at the site, was an amazing story teller and he brought the site to life. Would highly recommend!
This is a “not-to-miss” excursion. The ancient site is well-preserved and under a roof, so is fully shaded. Walkways provide close access to the houses. Ioannis is a wonderful guide, having graduate training in ancient archeology and having participated in the digs at this site. He was full of information about the Minoan people who lived here and the techniques that were used to uncover the secrets of the city. He supplemented what you could see at the sites with pictures of the artifacts that have been moved to museums. He was very friendly, easy to talk to and eager to answer our questions. Highest recommendations!!
Well informed guide explained ancient life on the island. Not 5 stars because it felt as if he was running through a script, rather than actually interacting with us. But we’re glad we followed his advice and visited in the afternoon because the site was almost empty. That made it a thoughtful experience. Easy and inexpensive to take the bus back and forth from Fira.
