An den Zielen besuchen Sie das antike Kloster Debre Libanos (und seine Höhlenkirche), die berühmte „Portugiesische Brücke“ aus den 1890er Jahren, die Nilschlucht mit ihrer reichen endemischen Vogelwelt und Geladapaviane und genießen einen Blick auf Addis Abeba von einem Aussichtspunkt auf 3.300 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel (Berg Entoto). Bitte beachten Sie, dass die Gelada-Paviane eine Glückssache sein können, da sie in einem offenen Park leben.

Debre Libanos wurde vom äthiopischen Abune Tekle Haymanot in einer steilen Schlucht des Flusses 1284 gegründet. Später wurde Debre Libanos zum politischen Zentrum der äthiopischen orthodoxen Kirche. Hier erhielt Kaiser Lebna Dengal 1520 die erste portugiesische Mission in Äthiopien ursprüngliche Kirche in einem Massaker von 1937, bei dem 800 Mönche, Diakone und Laienanbeter umkamen. Die moderne Kirche, deren Kuppeldach mit Glasfenstern geschmückt ist, bleibt ein wichtiger Wallfahrtsort.
Obwohl die Einheimischen glauben, dass die portugiesische Steinbogenbrücke im 16. Jahrhundert von den Portugiesen gebaut wurde, wurde sie tatsächlich in den 1890er Jahren von Ras Darge im alten portugiesischen Stil gebaut. Die schmale Spannweite ergibt ein spektakuläres Bild und die (in der Regenzeit) sprudelnde Kaskade direkt darunter ist sehr beeindruckend.
Sie sehen die Jemma River Gorge, den Ausgangspunkt für das African Great Rift Valley und einen der dramatischsten Straßenabschnitte Äthiopiens, der seinen Serpentinenabstieg zum Grund der Blue Nile Gorge (1 km unterhalb) beginnt. Die Schlucht ist über eine Straße erreichbar, die einen spektakulären Ausblick bietet. Zwei Brücken überqueren den Fluss.
Sie fahren an der historischen Entoto-Kirche vorbei, die in und um Addis Abeba die erste Kirche hat. Es ist eine ruhige Kirche mit typischer antiker Architektur der äthiopischen Kirchen.
In Entoto wurde zuerst Addis Abeba gegründet. Aus fast 3.300 Metern Höhe bietet der Hügel einen spektakulären Blick auf die weiten Teile von Addis Abeba.

This was great. Would have been better with a guide, and one that speaks English. Long drive there and back with bad roads. But the baboon stop, the monastery and the Portuguese stop especially are well worth it. The food stop was a miss for me though. Little bit of a dive. One one traveler felt comfortable eating there. Overall still well worth it. Pack your food and drinks. I’d go for the Portuguese bridge alone 10/10.
Nice guide, fine trip, raining season would be better to see the waterfalls
We had an incredible day with the awesome guide Semere! Everything from a coffee ceremony to seeing baboons, the canyon and the bridge. Wonderful scenery the whole way!

Great tour. Very friendly tour guides! We went to the market, the church, in the wild and saw the beautiful Gelada Baboons that can only be seen in Ethiopia! We always felt very safe. I can only recommend it!! :)

This is one of the best trips I have ever experienced. The trip distance is long but the tour guide Gebru is very warm and knowledgeable so it is not boring. We saw so may donkeys and monkeys. We saw churches and museums, and bridge and beautiful scenery. The Portuguese bridge is located in a place they call grande canyon of ethiopia, this time it is a green one.
After a last minute booking, they were very accommodating to finding transport for a large group. Pick up and drop off was easy at hotel. But what made the day special was our tour guide, Gebre, he was so knowledgeable, patient and funny. I'm glad I made a friend in him.
The experience was 5 out 5 very friendly well prepared from the begging to the end everything step was well done very professional I would like to give my gratitude to MR GIBRU for his hospitality and being at the top with us explaining with care minor details to each places that we visited
