Reiseverlauf

Had a wonderful day with Alex and driver. Was picked up at 7am as requested and returned to the hotel before 1pm. I visited the following in no particular order: National Museum of Ethiopia Both Lion of Judah Monuments Mount Entoto, the eucalyptus forest viewpoint and the I love Ethiopia sign within the Entoto Park Shiro Meda Market Tomoca Coffee House Bahta Mariam Church Addis Abba University Alex was able to exchange money for me so that I was able to make a purchase at the market and the coffee house. If you have 6+hours in Addis, you will not be disappointed.
We had a fantastic time exploring Addis Ababa with Elias. His deep knowledge of local history and culture was impressive, and the traditional coffee ceremony was a wonderful highlight. Highly recommend his tour!
I totally enjoyed this individually guided tour of Addis, which started conveniently at my hotel. My guide Alex was friendly and very knowledgeable. His chauffeur Addis, who seemed to have nerves of stainless steel, drove us safely and calmly through the often rather busy and chaotic traffic. From Entoto Park, its Church of St. Maryam, and the Palace of Emperor Menelik and Empress Taytu right next to it, we drove to the impressive Mercato. Wow, what a vast area, crowded with people displaying for sale almost anything you can think of! A stark contrast to the serene Ensira Pottery Center, a highly successful cooperative where 300 women make the most beautiful ceramics. After a spicy (pfff...) Ethiopian lunch and a traditional coffee, we paid our respects to Lucy (or Dinkʼinesh), the 3.2-million-year old partial skeleton of a female hominin species, at the Ethiopian National Museum. Thank you Addis & thank you Alex.
We had a wonderful day exploring Addis Ababa with Kirubel as our guide and Adis as the driver, and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city, especially first-time visitors. We visited some of the city’s highlights, including the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Tomoca Coffee, Mercato Market, and the National Museum of Ethiopia. The tour gave us a great introduction to Addis Ababa, its history, culture, and everyday life. Kirubel was very knowledgeable and passionate, he was able to provide interesting facts throughout the day. He made the historical and cultural aspects of each place much more meaningful, rather than simply taking us from one attraction to another. Very accommodate as well. Adis, our driver, was also excellent. He was very friendly, polite and paid great attention to details, he noticed our needs before we even ask (such as order more food and water, stop for taking photo etc.), which made the whole day comfortable and enjoyable. Overall, this was a great way to experience Addis Ababa in one day. Having a knowledgeable guide and a friendly, attentive driver made a big difference. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Addis Ababa, particularly if you have limited time and want to see the city’s major highlights with local insight.
A one-day tour on a layover between flights of a city that represents a culture as rich as Ethiopia's can only serve as an introduction - but what an introduction! Our host and guide Alex provided my wife and me with the story of the history and culture of Ethiopia and its landmarks in the capital city of Addis Ababa worthy of a seminar - except that it would be a rare seminar that was so enjoyable. Alex possesses a gift for weaving the site being visited, the story of the Ethiopian nation, and the traditions of its culture (or, more properly, cultures plural) in to a seamless tapestry. He conveys a love for his country that is infectious. All the while he is unfailingly attentive to his guests (in our case, one with a mild disability) in ways both comforting and practical. The fact that he is so welcomed by so many at the different places we visited resulted in a welcome extended to us. During our day in Addis, we were among friends, an experience that deeply enriched our visit. But perhaps the best tribute that I can offer on Alex's behalf was that our day in Addis has inspired us to learn more - about Addis and about Ethiopia and its people and culture. No, of course one cannot learn everything about a culture like Ethiopia's in a day. But one can come away inspired to share what one has seen and experienced with one's friends. In our case the lessons we will bring to our friends are two: One, by all means put Addis Ababa and Ethiopia on your bucket list. And two, arrange your visit through Addis Authentic Tours. A superb value for a day of discovery.

Addis is rich in history and culture. It's right there in the open but without an experienced, seasoned and knowledgeable guide, it will be difficult to unearth this rich culture. I travelled with my wife for our honeymoon break, and they treated us like we are a whole group tour. Alex made is easy for us to learn more about the history and culture of Addis and Ethiopia, while making it fun. The itinerary was well thought out, he provided pickup from our hotel, paid for all the admission fees and talked us though the history of the city and country for 7 hrs. The lunch break at the Ethiopia cultural restaurant was a lesson in itself where we enjoyed the Ethiopian coffee ceremony. For groups big and small I would highly recommend Addis Authentic Tours for the private city tour. Great experience and great value for money.
