Abdul sent Mohamed to be my guide with excellent driver David. I HIGHLY recommend. Mohamed was informative all the way with a quiet tone. He provided excellent stops for clean bathrooms, beautiful views, delicious well priced lunches & amazing scenery. We stopped at “aït ben hadou “ Casbah where many films were made. Walking this trail was 1 of many highlights. Beautiful views, no pressure friendly shopkeepers with amazing items. The drive was 7 hrs & went by quickly. The roads are new & perfect. The views landscapes were breathtaking & varied. You will see casbahs, masques, many villages, locals in beautiful attire, donkeys, sheep, horses, +++ Then the big thrill CAMELS. Relaxed well cared for herds with gentle handlers. Authentic nomads my camel guide slept the night with them in the sand. The ride was better than I expected with the sun setting. We arrived at the camp, all laid out in carpet and lamps. The tent were all attached extensively and I would rank this one of the highest of my adventures. Muhammad is an excellent guy and the driver too. Enjoy large with heavy doors and locks. There was a large cabinet outside for charging phones. The ground was all carpeted. They served us a large plate of perfectly stewed, vegetables and chicken. There must’ve been more than 100 people service was quick. The food was hot. Afterwards was a huge campfire and the guide and the people running the camp. Make sure everyone dance. We went up the sand dunes to stare at the stars. I saw six shooters.. all my wishes for this trip came true. Mohamed enjoyed himself & still paid attention we were all too, comfortable & safe. I travel extensively & will rank this way on TOP. I’ll never forget the moment I stood barefoot on the cool sand of the Zagora desert, sipping mint tea while the stars began to glow above us. There was a calmness in the air that I didn’t know I was craving until that moment. Our 2 day desert trip from Marrakech began early, with a comfortable pickup right outside our riad by our driver Lahcen — warm smile, great playlist, and a surprisingly smooth ride. The van was air-conditioned and clean, which made the long journey much easier. As we wound through the Atlas Mountains, I kept my eyes glued to the windows — dramatic cliffs, tiny Berber villages, and stretches of winding roads that felt like a movie. We stopped briefly at the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, and the views were simply breathtaking. It was chilly up there — I was grateful I had a light jacket! Around midday, we reached Aït Ben Haddou, the ancient ksar that’s been in so many films. Our guide, Mustapha, led us on a short walk through the village, pointing out Game of Thrones scenes (my inner nerd loved it). After that, we had lunch — classic lamb tagine with prunes and almonds, and the sweetest oranges I’ve ever tasted — in a roadside café near Ouarzazate. By late afternoon, we arrived in Zagora, where the real adventure began. Meeting our camels for the sunset ride was unforgettable — mine was grumpy but adorable. We laughed the whole hour as the sun dipped below the dunes, painting everything in golden orange. I forgot my scarf and Mustapha, bless him, wrapped his spare around my head to keep the chill away. The camp itself was simple but charming — low tents with clean blankets, a shared bathroom, and a cozy fire pit. Dinner was served under the stars — warm soup, couscous, and fresh bread. Afterward, we all sat around the fire listening to drums, sharing stories with fellow travelers. I even learned a few words in Arabic! Day two started early — and totally worth it. Watching the desert wake up during sunrise was almost spiritual. The light spread slowly, the dunes changing color every minute. We had a light breakfast of bread, jam, and tea before another short camel ride back to the road. The drive back to Marrakech through the Draa Valley was scenic and peaceful. I dozed off a few times, tired but content. Returning to the noise and energy of Marrakech made me appreciate the desert’s stillness even more.
