A great evening’s experience and it wasn’t just about ghosts and ghouls. Time flew and I learnt a lot, in total the walk was just over a mile with lots of little stops to get involvement in history and the conspiracy theories!

Our guide was a true story-teller. Stories were intriguing and he told them well. Lots of walking, as expected. York specifically has a lot of cobblestones, walking in the dark could make it difficult for some.

The lady who did our tour was fantastic! We didn’t want to go to one of the dress up tours with fake stories that felt more like a production, and this was the complete opposite! She told real stories, was very knowledgeable, friendly and chatty! She was very professional, but also had us cracking up with jokes which lightened the mood as it was about -4 degrees when we went! She gave a real in depth insight & multiple points of view to everything she explained - whether it was a real story or legend left to the imagination. I would 100% recommend this tour it’s great quality for the price also! If you’re looking for a semi-serious tour at the centre of York to learn about the history of the ghost stories in the area, then definitely go to this tour!!!

My boyfriend surprised me with tickets to the York Walking Ghost Tour for my birthday, and it was truly one of the best presents I’ve ever received! The experience exceeded all expectations, and our tour guide, Esther, made it absolutely unforgettable. Esther was incredible from start to finish. Her storytelling was captivating—she brought the haunted history of York to life in a way that had everyone hanging on her every word. Her interaction with the group was fantastic; she struck the perfect balance between humor, intrigue, and inclusivity, making sure everyone felt engaged and part of the experience. Not only did I have an amazing time, but I also learned so much about York’s rich and spooky past. I left the tour feeling thoroughly entertained and with a newfound appreciation for the city’s history. I honestly cannot recommend this tour enough, and if you’re booking, I highly recommend asking for Esther as your guide. She’s an absolute star and made the experience truly magical. Don’t miss this tour if you’re in York!
