Wien Woods Wine Tour - Vine, Vines & Good Times!
Beskrivelse
Nedre Østrig er den østrigske vindyrknings vugge, så vi ønsker at tage dig med til de smukke skove og vinmarker i den termiske region, lige syd for Wien. Hjem til traditionelt maleriske vinlandsbyer og nogle unikke lokale varianter, fremviser vi de fineste østrigske vinture fra jord til bord. Om sommeren vandrer vi gennem disse foden til alperne langs skovklædte stier såvel som gennem frodige grønne vinmarker på deres sydvendte skråninger. Vi stopper undervejs for at nyde nogle smukt vidstrakte udsigter over skovens baldakin og Wien-bassinet over til Ungarn og Slovakiet, inden vi når en af Østrigs ældste vinlandsbyer til frokost og et vingårdsbesøg. Om vinteren besøger vi i stedet for vandreturen to vingårde for at fokusere vores opmærksomhed mere på historien om vinfremstilling i Thermal Region, og på at møde en lokal vinproducent for at lære om moderne vinproduktion - alt sammen med glas af det bedste i regionen har at tilbyde i vores hænder, selvfølgelig!

Turens mødested er Wien-Mitte jernbanestation (09:00 mellem april-oktober og 09:30 fra november-marts). Når vi har mødt og præsenteret os selv, vil vi tage på et tog mod syd (ca. 30 minutter) til hjertet af Wien Woods.
Sommer Vi begynder vores vandretur i den dejlige kurby Baden, engang et yndet landsted for Beethoven. Vi bugter os gennem det klassiske landsbycentrum og dets smukke parker, før vi vandrer langs skovstier mod et storslået forhøjet udsigtspunkt, som har udsigt over Wien-bassinet og Wienerwald i alle retninger. Alene dette sted er en fotografs drøm! Vi går derefter ind i vinmarkerne, vandrer gennem række på række af frodige grønne vinstokke. Som belønning for vores indsats tager vi en pause mellem vinstokkene til en udendørs vinsmagning. Vinter Vores tog bringer os direkte til vinmarkerne i den termiske region og til en af Østrigs ældste vinfremstillingsinstitutioner, gennemsyret af middelaldertraditioner og historie. Vi vil opdage, hvordan klosterordenerne blev vinpionerer i deres tid, udvikle en forståelse af, hvad der har formet det østrigske vinlandskab gennem tiden, og overveje, i hvilken retning det kan bevæge sig fremad...vi vil diskutere dette under vores første vinsmagning selvfølgelig!
Sommer & Vinter Vi fortsætter derefter til den maleriske vinlandsby Gumpoldskirchen for at spise frokost på en af dens traditionelle østrigske vintaverner. Dagens vigtigste højdepunkt er en eftermiddagsvinsmagning, som finder sted hos en af landsbyens fineste producenter og ledes af en lokal vinmager. Denne smagning giver mulighed for masser af muligheder for at stille spørgsmål til, hvordan vin produceres, for at give et intimt indblik i de udfordringer, som vindyrkere står over for i dag. Turen slutter med en kort togtur tilbage til byens centrum. Du ankommer til dit hotel i god tid til at friske op inden middagen, operaen, teatret eller koncerten! Uanset hvad det er, vil du sove godt den nat!

- Størstedelen af vinterrejsen er indendørs, der er en mild 20 minutters gåtur gennem flade vinmarker, da vi bevæger os mellem landsbyerne, så klæd dig varmt for det.

This was one of the great experiences of our trip. The weather was perfect, the vineyards were dressed in their beautiful fall colors, the hike was uphill in the beginning and then once into the vineyards, it was mostly level. James is a fantastic guide and checked the pace with us several times (we're old and able to keep up). James informed us about various sites and is well-informed about this area of Austria and its vineyards, winemakers, and regional wines. Topped off with a wonderful lunch and a private wine tasting at Weingut Biegler. We just enjoyed a Biegler Pinot Noir last night. Highly recommend that you book this tour.
My family and I had a truly memorable experience on this tour. We saw amazing views of the Austrian countryside, walked through actual working vineyards, ate some great local cuisine, and tasted some delicious local wine during a tasting hosted by the owner himself sitting in his beautiful courtyard. What made the day truly special though was our guide (James). He took the time to talk to all four of us, shared tons of facts about the region and the wine (as well as his own personal stories), and provide top-notch translation at the winery. He made sure that we were enjoying ourselves and made us feel like we were talking to an old friend. The only caution is that the five+ mile hike contains some steep uphill and downhill sections, so be prepared for that. We would highly recommend this tour!
Had an amazing time at this tour. James the guide was awesome, and the woods and the vineyards were amazing even though I got a sunburn (so dont forget your sunscreen!). The second part - the wine tasting - was also great and I'm not even a wine person! This tour, the views, and the whole experience will stay in my memory for a long time (I think its gonna be my new 'happy place'), and I definitely recommend it! Thank you James and everyone who's been in our group!
My husband and I did the Vienna Woods Hiking and Wine Tour and we loved it! James was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. We met in the morning and rode the train with James and the group to Baden where our hike started. Our group was small, which made the tour feel intimate and exclusive. James was able to give each of us individual attention, answering questions and ensuring that everyone felt included and engaged. The views were beautiful and we learned a lot about the local culture, the towns we hiked through, vineyards, the art of wine making, and the final product itself. We 100% recommend this AMAZING experience!
James was incredible! He met us at the train station, and we rode a train 30 minutes to this adorable little town outside Vienna. He was knowledgeable and really made us feel comfortable during the trip. We went in the winter so we didn't do the hike and instead he planned a second wine tasting for us! Which I rather prefer anyway! I would definitely recommend booking this tour. Totally worth it to see the country outside of the main city.
I booked this as a way to take advantage of glorious weather, taste some new wine and get out of the city on our longer trip. James was amazing- he met us bang on time and took care of everything. He was thoughtful, prepared, informative and funny. We had a short train trip during which he set the stage , explained the geography and characteristics of the wine region and set expectations for the walk and festivities. We disembarked in a storybook town, saw some historical points of interest and started our walk through some lovely woods. The walk was glorious with some slightly challenging parts- wear good shoes- but nothing six middle aged relatively fit people couldnt handle. We reached the high point quickly and then ambled agreeably through the vineyards, towards our lunch and tasting spot. The path is lovely, dotted with heurige tables and little spots where people drink in the summer. We had a fabulous Austrian lunch in a beautiful courtyard, complete with dog welcoming committee and then proceeded to a orovate tasting. Our winemaker host was informative and we really enjoyed his chemistry with his guests and his wine! James translated and provided very knowledgeable and accessible , unpretentious commentary. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and left with two boxes of wine packed for travel and a mission to return. Worth every penny and a splendid way to spend a day! Highly recommend!

James was fantastic! He did an incredible job of providing information and guiding us throughout the day. It was a truly unique opportunity to explore the Austrian woods and have a one of a kind wine tasting!
Went with zero expectations. First impression was amazing with on the dot pickup at the spot by the charming enthusiastic guide James and 5 handpicked team mates. James took us through the woods a 2 hour trek which was a cakewalk due to his constant motivating words. Then after a brief downhill stroll came to the actual vineyards. A very splendid sight of acres and acres of grapes Fahrenheit and black perfect and ready to be picked. After an hour of walk drenched in this splendor came to the most beautiful lunch place, literally ate under the vines. Finally came the much awaited Wine tasting. A warm humble host welcomed us into his home and served us each of his creation with utmost sincerity and affection. Amidst a very cozy pleasant chatter we relished each of the wines and tried to experience a little of the passion of its creator!!! After this 6,7 hour long magic we dispersed dizzy with content and of course the wine inside and in our hands. I sincerely recommend this tour for any one looking for the most amazing wine tasting experience!! Mr. James is an excellent guide anyone would be at ease with!!
So much fun!!! Get ready to hike an absolutely beautiful trail, have a blast, taste great wine, and learn along the way! Our guide, James, was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and so much fun. It was the most perfect day.
