Hval- og delfinsafari på Pico Island - halv dag

This was an underwhelming experience. We saw some whale fins and a dolphin . However, these animals are shy and don’t jump, like whales do in Argentina or dolphins in Costa Rica. The tend to take a shallow dive and go away. Do you only see their fins. The boat moves a lot in the open Atlantic, so several people got sea sickness, one of them constantly vomiting. The company was serious and the guide was knowledgeable. They did change the date of our excursion citing rough sea conditions on our original date, but the guide then mentioned whale sightings on that day, which made me question whether it had just been an excuse. The best part was the scenic drive from Madalena to Lajes. I would not recommend recommend this activity if you’ve already seen whales or dolphins before.

The experience was advertised as a zodiac boat, but we were on a much larger vessel. As a result it was more difficult to see the whales - it depended on your side of the boat and if someone decided to park themselves in front of you to take pictures.

Went with the same company last year as the experience then had been so good. This year’s was very different. Started trip 20 minutes late having to wait around for a group of Italians but were still back in port before the advertised finish time (another rib went out on time, before us and came back well after us) - felt short changed !! . When we came across whales unfortunately a couple of the Italians on that side of the boat refused to sit down despite that being the stated protocol, so viewing and picture opportunities were poor for us and others on our side of the rib . Unfortunately our guide on board did little to enforce the courtesy to others on board she had requested at the briefing on the way out. Being on a rib again off Pico island to watch whales and dolphins remains an absolute privilege and hopefully we just happened to hit an ‘off’ day with Aqua Acores

This is a five star tour. Excellent customer service and knowledge of the Dolphins and Wales. We saw regular and white dolphins, humpback and blue whales on this tour in the afternoon. Thank you for such a great tour.

Overall, a great experience! Very nice and attentive crew, we were well taken care of. There was a briefing in advance with information about the whales/dolphins. After the boat tour, we received drinks and cookies as well as a map where all the animals we saw were marked - really practical. The tour at sea was very cool - from the view of the island to the multiple whale sightings and the many dolphins, it was a great experience. There was also a sea turtle!

Mary accompanied us and her passion for what she does is evident in the enthusiasm she guided us with. The exit to the sea in the Zodiac is not for the weak, it is a semi-directed and the impact of the waves is sometimes made noticeable in the internal organs, it takes some management with the legs to soften the impact or the backs give off. If you get sick, I recommend looking for another type of boat because this is definitely not for you. Thanks to the mastery of the spotters, the skipper and Maria we were able to see 4 different species of whales and many dolphins. Being at sea in a semi-reel in the middle of the Atlantic is something that requires a lot of respect. It was cloudy and rainy and Aqua Azores provided waterproof pants and jackets. Maria considered the morning a success. It is an 'once in a lifetime' experience that I recommend you do with companies that respect the animals, the ocean and the safety of participants such as Aqua Azores.

An unforgettable whale watching experience! The excellent Aqua Azores team organized a fantastic excursion: in three hours, we saw three species of dolphins swimming in huge pods, and two species of whales – sperm whales and humpback whales.

Paolo, our guide and also the skipper were great! Anytime again.....

Everything was perfect, for booking, delivery, welcome and organization. In addition we had the chance to see a cowbird, a blue whale and dolphins. And the little extra, a hot drink on the way home. I highly recommend it.
