Elena led our small group of 5 on this tour. She lives in the ghetto area and her husband’s family had direct experience with deportation. Therefore, the tour was most authentic and emotional. She shared how life is as a Jew living in Venice. The synagogues we visited were beautiful. Don’t miss this experience.
Authentic. Depth of knowledge, personal connection the the history and the place. Ellena was remarkable.
Incredible tour of the Jewish ghetto and synagogues. The guide was very knowledgeable and shared so much history.
Guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Jewish people in Venice throughout time. I would recommend to future travelers to take a water taxi to the ghetto square if they are staying near St Marks Square.
Our guide was outstanding! Really knew the history and added personal stories. Would definitely recommend!
Ilena was incredibly knowledgeable and one of our favorite guides ever, across many European travels. The best tour we had in Italy.
This was my third tour of the Jewish ghetto in Venice and by far the BEST. Elena was not only knowledgeable about Jewish history but also about the history of Venice. And her stories were personal. She lives in the ghetto with her husband and two daughters. Her grandmother is still alive and remembers liberation day in Venice, giving American soldiers a rose and receiving chocolate bars from them. She attends the synagogues we visited. Antisemitism in Venice is real and has affected her daily life. My grandchildren learned a lot about daily Jewish life and the role of Jews in Venice through the a few s (from pirates to bankers to doctors allowed to leave the ghetto to treat aristocrats). Today depending on Chabad for a daily minyan.
This tour was incredibly moving, informative and meaningful. The tour guide was outstanding, she has such a deep understanding of the area and its history. I could’ve listened to her tell stories all day. Thank you!!!
For Jewish visitors the Ghetto is a very important , not to be missed experience. Our guide, Elena's personal commitment to the residents who have and now still live here is an important witness to our history. Thank you.
We had a very well-informed guide who explained the history of the Venetian Ghetto to us (Germans with Italian language skills) and a young couple from the USA in a somewhat entertaining way. The highlight was, of course, the visit to the two synagogues. All in all, a tour that we would not want to miss!
