Beskrivelse

Kom sulten.

KOK TSUIVAN SAMMEN Ind i køkkenet.

Would recommend 100%

It felt like visiting a friends house. Idar is a very warm person, he opens his home to his guests and makes it a very comfortable experience. He's very knowledgeable, he could answer all the questions I had about Mongolia and it's culture. I was alone during the tour that day but felt very safe as a solo female traveler. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience something outside the generic tourist experience.

10/10 local experience!

My group booked this experience with Ider at the last minute and he was incredibly accommodating. The tour was easily one of the highlights of our trip, giving us a small glimpse into how locals live in Ulaanbaatar. We explored neighborhoods and markets we never would have discovered on our own, and ended the tour making a homey, delicious national dish: tsuivan. The best travel experiences are the ones that leave a lasting mark, and I've already been inspired to recreate this dish now that I'm back home in the States. Thank you Ider for your warm hospitality!

Great tour!

I went on a day tour with a Ider yesterday and had a wonderful experience. He was very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. We walked through the city and explored the local markets before visiting his home, where we played traditional games and cooked together. It felt personal, authentic and relaxed. Overall, a lovely day and definitely excellent value for both the money and time spent. Highly recommended!

A Warm and Authentic Taste of Ulaanbaatar!

A fantastic and very personal way to experience Ulaanbaatar. Our guide, Ider, picked us up and was friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic throughout. He showed us a unique local side of UB, including areas most visitors would never normally see. We were then warmly welcomed into his family home, where we shared traditional games and stories before cooking a delicious local dish together. A huge thank you to Ider and family for opening both their city and their home to us! Hope to see you again on another tour for the north part of the country !

I really enjoyed our time together, and I’m grateful for the conversations, the laughs, and the time we shared at home. I’d be very happy to see you both again, and I hope we get to explore the north together someday.

The Perfect Tour for History Lovers and Foodies

I was looking for interesting local experiences in Ulaanbaatar and came across Serey Travel’s walking tour and cooking class in a Mongolian home. It immediately caught my attention because it combined two of my favourite things: exploring a city on foot and learning about food through cooking. The walking tour was such a great way to get to know the city beyond the usual tourist sights. I’m a big history nerd, so I had a lot of questions about Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s history, and everyday life there. Ider was incredibly patient and generous with his knowledge, answering everything in detail and making the tour feel very personal rather than rushed or scripted. What made it even more special was the way he shared stories from his own childhood and experiences growing up in Mongolia. These personal stories added so much depth to the tour and gave us a much more authentic glimpse into local life. After the walking tour, Ider welcomed us into his home for the cooking class, which was a real highlight. We learned how to make Tsuivan, a traditional Mongolian noodle dish, and I really enjoyed seeing how it was prepared step by step in a home setting. It felt warm, relaxed, and genuine, and it was lovely to experience Mongolian hospitality in such a personal way. Tsuivan is definitely something I’ll try to make again when I’m back home. Overall, this experience was one of the most meaningful parts of my trip. I learned so much about Ulaanbaatar, Mongolian culture, local history, and traditional food, all in a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for an authentic and memorable experience in Mongolia.

What a great first day in Ulaanbaatar

What an amazing day. First a walk around the city - with the guide pointing out and explaining different buildings and places - then we stopped by some markets before heading to his apartment for the cooking class. We cooked and atea delicious Mongolian meal - as well as talked about cultural things. I'd thoroughly recommend this tour. The guide was knowledgable and informative and the style was casual - we went at the pace that we wanted.

Authentic cultural experience

Six of us had a wonderful experience with Ider. He lead us on an oral history walking tour of Ulaanbaatar and then to his home for active participation in a cooking demonstration. Ider’s warm personality was evident throughout as we not only discussed the cooking techniques for the meal but also many aspects of Mongolian culture and what it was like for him and his family growing up and living in Mongolia in general and Ulaanbaatar most recently. A 5+ experience I would recommend to anyone interested in getting an authentic dive into this interesting and vibrant culture.

Fantastic cooking and delightful day!

Ider was fantastic host: fun, friendly, warm, open, clearly excited to be with us. He showed us local markets and sights as well as his family apartment. The tsuivan he taught us to cook was delicious. With little advanced notice, Ider graciously shifted to a vegetarian option. Spending the day with him was absolutely perfect. Do it, you WON’T be disappointed!

Non-tourist side of Ulaanbaatar - plus cooking! Highly recommended!

Great experience - it was my first day in Ulaanbaatar and all the insights of the guide really helped me to gain a better understanding of city live in Mongolia! I could experience the non-touristic spots and the tour was enriched with several personal stories. We then went to cook Mongolia's national dish and ate together. In between I was also taught games and fortunetelling with goat knuckles!!! Overall a great start for my first trip to Mongolia - highly recommended!

Operatørens svar

Matthias, thank you for this. I’m glad we could make your first day in Mongolia a little more personal, from the neighborhoods and stories to cooking Tsuivan and discovering what Shagai had to say about your fortune. It was a pleasure having you, and I hope you took a little piece of Ulaanbaatar with you.
