Træd ind i Hanois sjæl gennem dets gamle kvarter, en levende labyrint med over tusind års historie. Her synes tiden at bremse, da gamle gader, travle markeder og tidløse traditioner transporterer dig til en helt anden verden. Du kan forvente at se de smukke, gode, dårlige og chokerende dele af Hanoi. Fra den højeste skyline bar, kan du få en oversigt og fornemmelse af Vietnams historie. Derefter skal du gå ned for at se den lille smug, Ta Hien ølhjørne, et lokalt tempel, en familiedrevet donutsbutik, den skjulte udsigt over Dong Xuan-markedet og Long Bien-broen for at forstå, hvordan trafikken fungerer (hvis du er forvirret over, hvordan folk kan køre her). Midt i det gamle kvarter er Bach Ma-templet et af de ældste og helligste templer i byen, som oprindeligt blev grundlagt i det 9. århundrede. Oversættelsen af Bach Ma er White Horse, og dette refererer til en historie bag opførelsen af templet. Kong Ly Thai To havde kæmpet for at bygge templet, da dets mure blev ved med at kollapse. Det siges, at en hvid hest afgrænsede det bedste område til at bygge templet med sine hove for at hjælpe kongen med at bygge templet. Gå ind i templet gennem nogle gamle trædøre, hvorefter du vil kunne se det smukt dekorerede interiør og en rødlakeret begravelsespalanquin. Inde i templet finder du en statue af den hvide hest, en helligdom til Confucius og et Fønix-alter til ofringer til de fire årstider. Bach Ma-templet bruges stadig aktivt af tilbedere, der kommer her for at brænde røgelse og bede.
Long Bien Bridge er en unik arkitektur, der er evigt med op- og nedture i Hanoi hovedstad, og er blevet et af byens symboler. Broen er ikke kun en trafikbygning, men også et levende historisk relikvie. Under en fransk og amerikansk krig har Long Bien Bridge været vidne til mange historiske øjeblikke. Long Bien Bridge blev bygget fra 1989 til 1902 under den franske besættelse af landet. Ikke mange mennesker ved, at Long Bien-broen med længden på over 2 km plejede at være den næstlængste bro i verden, lige efter Brooklyn Bridge fra American. Interessant nok er Long Bien Bridge den eneste bro i Hanoi, som giver turisterne mulighed for at gå en tur langs togsporet, smage nogle desserter eller købe frisk grøntsag eller fisk fra sælgerne på broen. Desuden sagde besøgende, der kommer til Hanoi, at Long Bien Bridge er det bedste sted at se på solnedgangen og tage nogle dejlige fotos.
Dong Xuan-markedet blev grundlagt i 1889 af franskmændene og opkaldt efter dets placering. På det tidspunkt var markedet et gunstigt handelssted, især efter at franskmændene byggede broen Long Bien. Det ved du måske ikke, hver gamle gade i Hanoi blev opkaldt efter deres oprindelige forretning, som derefter blev fjernet til Dong Xuan-markedet under det franske herredømme. Det er grunden til, at alle navnene startes med ordet Hang (betyder produkt), og det følgende er, hvad de sælger: Hang Ca sælger fisk (Ca betyder fisk) osv.

Kien was an excellent guide! His personal knowledge of Vietnam history and culture mixed well with his time living in USA and Ireland. English was excellent so he understood question right off. We started tour with a beautiful view of the city from a rooftop lounge, then inside for cold iced coffee and history lesson (sitting in the air conditioning!). We walked to a few interesting places including a tiny alley to see how some live in Hanoi. Kien described culture of "shop roads" and "fake paper" -- things that you wouldn't know just by walking the old Quarter. Highest rating for this walking tour and Kien as our guide!!

We had such an interesting and enjoyable tour with Angelina. It was our first day in Hanoi and it gave us a great starting point for understanding the city and history. The tour was a combination of information, history, conversation and trying some local food along the way. Angelina was a wonderful guide, very open, knowledgeable and fun! So interesting to see some places we wouldn’t have gone on our own.

Dung was a great guide. Her English was excellent, and she was very friendly and open. I felt I had the opportunity to learn more about how people reallly live, as well as some history/orientation. My only disappointment was that the sites and markets were closed for the 6pm tour, which was NOT clarified for me. Had I known, I probably would have done a different tour. Still, I enjoyed the chat and opportunity to see the city at night with a local. Plus, Dung bought me a treat of delish donuts! I bet the earlier tours are super.

Nice guide that gave us an ok guide of Vietnam and Hanoi. Recommend tours where they have a microphone, as the guide spoke a little low and there is a lot of noise in the streets of Hanoi.
