Stortorget, eller hovedtorvet i den gamle bydel, har altid været hjertet af Stockholm. Hvis brosten kunne tale, ville der være så mange historier at dele! I dag huser det Nobelmuseet, et museum dedikeret til en af Sveriges største opfindere og hans arv.
Den nordligste del af Prästgatan (Priest Street) var engang kendt som Helvetsgränd (Helvedes Alley). I middelalderen mente man, at den del, der lå nordvest for kirken, var et skændet hvilested for de døde. Storkyrkan (Stockholms Domkirke) findes lige rundt om hjørnet; således blev denne del af gaden omtalt som helvede.
Kongeslottet er et af Europas største og mest levende steder. Det er Hans Majestæt Kongens officielle residens, og her finder væsentlige dele af kongemagtens repræsentation sted. Det kongelige palads er også dagligdagen for kongen og dronningen, hvilket gør det kongelige palads i Stockholm unikt blandt Europas kongelige residenser.
Stockholms katedral er en af Stockholms ældste bygninger, hvor kong Carl XVI Gustav og dronning Silvia sagde: "Det gør jeg." I 2010 fulgte kronprinsesse Victoria og prins Daniel i deres fodspor.
Järnpojke er den mindste (og mest yndige!) statue i Sverige. Det officielle navn på statuen er Iron Boy (Järnpojken på svensk); han er dog også kendt som "Drengen, der ser på månen."
Sankt Georg og dragen symboliserer slaget mellem Sverige (St. Georg) og Danmark (dragen) i slutningen af 1400-tallet. Skulpturen er en bronzekopi; originalen findes inde i Storkyrkan (Stockholms Domkirke) og er lavet af træ.
Mårten Trotzig er den smalleste gyde i Stockholm. På det smalleste sted er den kun 90 cm bred. Nogle guidebøger hævder, at det er den smalleste gyde i Europa, men det er desværre ikke sandt; der er en i Prag, der kun er 60 cm bred. Med al sikkerhed er der gyder i andre europæiske lande, der er smallere end Mårten Trotzig.

Vasamuseet er hjemsted for verdens eneste bevarede skib fra 1600-tallet. Sammen springer vi køen over for at komme ind på Vasamuseet og lære om hendes historie. Kort sagt var Vasa Sveriges dyreste og mest udsmykkede flådefartøj i løbet af 1600-tallet. Da Vasaen sejlede frem på sin jomfrurejse, stod Stockholms langs kysten for at ønske hende held og lykke. De var øjenvidner til katastrofen. Vasaen kæntrede og sank inde i Stockholms havn. I dag ligger Vasaskibet foran dig, 98% intakt.

This was a fantastic tour! Got a real feel for Stockholm's history and got all the highlights in during one day before we boarded a cruise ship. Guide was highly knowledgeable and friendly. Having the guide take us through the Vasa was especially worth it. It is a lot of walking but that's what we wanted. Had a great time and would highly recommend for any first timers and especially those on a limited time frame in the city.

This was a wonderful tour. It was cold the day we did it but our guide was great at keeping us moving and stopping for coffee. He was so informative about the city and of course the Vasa Museum. This was a great tour. An easy half day but long enough to be a great introduction to the history of old town and Stockholm in general. Our guide, Veerle was wonderful and tremendously enthusiastic. The ferry ride was short and probably scenic (though our visibility was obscured by a fair amount of snow).
