This was something really special. Spending time in a real home in a beautiful hidden away area on the outskirts of Kandy. We shopped for vegetables at the market and learned the difference d between numerous banana, named exotic vegetables and tasted all manner of things. And this was just the start. Arriving at granny’s house we felt immediately like we’d properly got away from the usual tourist stuff. We were warmly received, and took part in preparing a feast of curries with the charming granny. What a wonderful way to spend half a day. Our kids - 13 and 15 loved it too. I could go on but I think you need to experience it for yourself!
We absolutely loved this experience of market shopping and cooking with Granny. Such an authentic experience in her home and one of the absolute highlights of our trip in Sri Lanka. And so delicious!
Great experience, I choose to start with the buying of the ingredients at the market with Sundesh. Sampled many different fruits. Granny was excellent in teaching us the sri lankan style of curries what spices to use and tasting.
There is a reason this is number 1 because it is amazing. Highly recommend the market tour with Sudash before hand. Brilliant to go the local market. Then you go back to meet his Mum, Nandi. Incredible woman. The whole experience was such fun and the kids loved it. If you like cooking and want to learn more about flavours and how they cook dishes I cannot recommend this enough. We always do a cookery class when traveling and this I would rate as one of the best! Thank you all so much.

Amazing experience. Nandi is so kind and funny and the kitchen has the most beautiful view. The food was INCREDIBLE and we made 10 different dishes!!

We loved this Kandy cooking class with Granny! An absolute delight to be invited into her cosy home and learn how to cook Sri Lankan food from scratch. The food is delicious and the recipes are a lovely momento to take home and to remake for ourselves.
