The Centre Pompidou Málaga undoubtedly belongs to the cultural highlights of the city and has met my expectations as a demanding museum and exhibition visitor in many ways. The exhibition concept convinces with an extraordinary selection of modern and contemporary artworks that are presented in a way that is both intellectually stimulating and visually impressive. The curatorial quality is remarkable and manages to connect well-known positions in art history with surprising perspectives. Particularly noteworthy is the special exhibition, whose extraordinary paintings impressed with creativity, expressiveness, and originality. The works were carefully staged and offered numerous moments of reflection and discovery. For visitors with high expectations for art communication and exhibition design, this is a real gain. Unfortunately, the overall excellent impression at the end of the visit was marred by the behavior of an employee in the exit area. Although our personal belongings were still in the lockers, we were asked to leave the area by an older employee with unfriendly gestures and unprofessional body language. A respectful and service-oriented approach to guests should be a matter of course, especially in a renowned international cultural institution. The excellent quality of the exhibitions is beyond question. However, there is a noticeable need for improvement in customer orientation and visitor communication. Friendliness and professionalism should accompany the visitor experience until the very last moment. Overall, the Centre Pompidou Málaga remains highly recommendable due to its outstanding exhibitions. The artistic quality deserves the highest recognition. With a stronger focus on a lived service culture, the museum could better meet its international aspirations.
Not much to see there is more than a permanent collection
Attention only the temporary exhibition is accessible. The permanent exhibition is changing so CLOSE
During our visit to Málaga we stopped to see El Cubo, the famous colorful building that houses the Centre Pompidou Málaga, the first overseas location of the famous contemporary art museum in Paris. The building is immediately recognizable for its colorful panels and modern structure, and is a real landmark of the Málaga waterfront. The museum offers a collection of modern and contemporary art, temporary exhibitions and cultural activities that are worth a visit, especially for those who love innovative and experimental art. The Cube’s location is great: it’s right next to Muelle 1, the harbor’s pedestrian area full of shops, bars and restaurants. It is very easy to reach on foot from the historic center, and walking among the boutiques and clubs with sea views makes the visit even more pleasant. El Cubo is a modern and colourful landmark in Málaga, perfect for contemporary art lovers and those who want to enjoy the port and the liveliness of Muelle 1. Access to the museum is free every Sunday from 16:00, otherwise it costs 7 euros
Pompidon’t! Spent €18 for two adults and two kids for 5 minutes of weirdness. Nothing to see apart from some weird fetish videos of people tying themselves up, setting themselves on fire, not to mention the boy on an elastic band with his fella out going back forward. All we did was laugh while the curators judged us. Best thing was photos of the American woman’s photos of her and her dog which were amazing (ie any normal persons photo library). Final straw was my 8 year old daughter getting told off for looking in the recycling bin that turned out to be another sh!t piece of art. Depressing.
I didn't like Pompidou for nothing. There were some paintings that were more than the staff. It is not worth spending money for 4 works.
Really cool museum and interesting exhibit. When we went they were in the process of updating a new exhibit so we didn’t spend a lot of time there but the exhibit that was open was very cool. Nice staff too.
Great museum. Was able to get tickets thru Viator when the museum’s website didn’t have any tickets available online to purchase! Worked out great.
This museum is a Spanish extension of the celebrated Parisian museum (in fact, in the main lobby has the model of the Piano-Rogers project). However, it does not mean that it is "the same", this museum has its own identity, and it is that from the street you can only see a colored glass box, which generates wonder and doubt, but it does not indicate anything else... which I find fantastic, because the access is through a side ramp and a cantilever flare that simply invites you to enter. The textures of the geometric pattern, as well as the Light Processing of the interior facade, are extraordinary. The museum is elegantly sized towards the basement, going down through ramps and stairs over two main spaces, the aforementioned courtyard containing the cube and the main hall, a space of several heights where the exhibition in turn speaks for itself. In my case, it was my turn to visit the permanent collection, which is a feast of contemporary design and art, and Kandinsky’s retrospective, which only reinforces the importance of having exhibition spaces like this, well structured and with proper transitions between galleries. It is a gateway to culture and also, the anchor point of Pier 1 which is an extraordinary pedestrian and commercial space, is very worth visiting and living in this great architectural proposal.
Reading the reviews, I was happy to discover that the exhibitions on display in January 2025 had inspired many people. Alas, that was not the case in my case :/ Well, exhibitions and museums are always a gamble.
