På denne guidede tur starter vi ved Riva og går gennem kælderen i Diocletians palads. Så vil vi opdage de vigtigste attraktioner. Du vil lære, hvordan kejser Diocletians palads blev en by, og hvordan hans mausoleum blev en katedral. Det tidligere Jupiter-tempel, i dag et kristent kapel, og vestibulen er yderligere højdepunkter, som vi vil opdage sammen. Vi går langs de tidligere romerske hovedgader, Cardo og Decumanus, og besøger byportene, herunder Den Gyldne Port.

Vi starter vores tur ved Riva, Splits strandpromenade. Turister og lokale nyder solen på en af de mange caféer og restauranter. Her er det "se og blive set".

Diocletians palads blev bygget og beboet af den romerske kejser Diocletian af samme navn for over 1700 år siden. I dag er paladset ikke et museum i traditionel forstand. Huse og butikker ligger inden for paladsets mure, og der er livligt travlhed.

Gennem den sydlige port går vi ind i paladsets kælderrum. Kældrene er ligesom paladset bygget for mere end 1700 år siden og er meget velbevarede. Her får vi et rigtig godt indtryk af paladsets dimensioner.

Jernporten er den vestlige port til paladset. Ligesom nord- og østporten blev vestporten bygget som en dobbeltport, kaldet propugnaculum. I området mellem de to porte kunne fjenden blive fanget og sprængt med sten, pile og varm olie. Forlader vi porten, kommer vi ind på den smukke plads "Pjaca".

Den nordlige port til paladset var den vigtigste port i romertiden. Herfra førte vejen til byen Salona, hovedstaden i den romerske provins.

På østsiden af paladset ligger det grønne marked. Frisk frugt, grøntsager og andre traditionelle fødevarer sælges her hver dag.

Exceptional!
Amazing. From the initial communication of the reservation to the very end, our guide, Dana, was exceptional. She was prompt, so kind and highly informative. She navigated around the crowds and was 100% present with us. Throughout our time she kept a pace to see the highlights with being flexible to our questions and interests. At the end she asked how she could help with the remainder of our stay. She gave restaurant suggestions and even provided us connections for a rental car that worked perfectly. Great city tour – informative, entertaining and with many exciting stories. Dinah was super friendly and led the tour with a lot of expertise and made the city come alive. We learned exciting historical facts, discovered hidden corners and got many tips for further activities.

Excellent Tour
Dana was our guide for our private tour of the Palace, and it was just an absolute pleasure to spend that time with her.
Her knowledge of the history of the Palace and Split was excellent, but she just brought it all to life so well, and made it so interesting for us, and it did truly feel like you were being taken round by a friend as another reviewer has said, her enthusiasm was contagious and she is just so easy to get on with.

An unforgettable event with Split Guide
We have a
Private city tour booked with Split Guide. Our guide Dinah guided us through the city with a lot of sympathy and knowledge. There was no mistaking how much Dinah loves to do your tours and with how much passion. Everywhere there was something to discover and learn and Dinah could answer any of our inquisitive questions. Worth it!
We had an excellent tour with Dana as our guide. She was very knowledgeable, we were able to go at our own pace and ask questions, she gave wonderful recommendations for things to do not just in Split but in other areas of Croatia. There is so much history in the palace - a guide is necessary to make sure you understand what you’re seeing. It is worth it and Dana was great!

Wonderful private tour guide in Split
Our wonderful private tour guide Dana made Diocletian's Palace in Split come alive for us. We were a group of 8, including 4 teenaged boys. Dana managed to keep us all engaged with interesting stories about the lives of the people who lived in the palace over the years. After the tour, she gave us orientation of different kinds of food available in Split, and the best places for local foods like Borek, Cevapi and of course gelato! I highly recommend Dana!

A delight in Split
It was a very nice and interesting tour. You could always ask questions and they answered them competently. We had the opportunity to try specialties at the market. I really enjoyed the 2 hours.
