Guide Murillo from Taste Rio doesn’t just show you where to eat — he takes you to the spots where he eats. The places where he celebrates his own birthdays. Zero kickbacks received from the restaurants! Pure love of food. It shows. My favs from the tour: 🧄 Alho no Azeite — garlic cloves slow-cooked in olive oil until buttery and sweet. Life-changing. 🐙 Bacalhau and octopus salad at a by-weight deli — genius way to try multiple things at once 🥟 “It’s NOT an empanada!!” — Murillo’s face when our ENTIRE group called the Pastel an empanada was absolutely PRICELESS. Flat, half-moon shaped, paper-thin blistery fried shell — completely different from an empanada apparently. We were all wrong. It was also one of the best thing I’ve ever eaten so Murillo wins. 😂 🍷 Vinho Verde “Ponte da Barca” — a Portuguese white so cold and crisp - that broke my rules, haha! 🥥 Batida de Coco — coconut milk cocktail so creamy I almost forgot I don’t drink 🍹 Passion fruit, ginger and fragrant herb cocktail — that almost converted me. 🤣👍 Just when I thought we were done, Murillo dropped the mic.🎤 Out came Queijo Coalho wrapped in crispy bacon, glazed with sweet guava on a skewer. Brazil’s legendary Romeu e Julieta (sweet + salty) reimagined as the grand finale. Smoky bacon + grilled cheese + guava = the dessert I didn’t know existed. 🧀🥓 Brazil wins!! Every bar had football on. Every Brazilian was screaming against Argentina. I smiled, ate my pastel, and felt local:) ⚽🇧🇷 5/5. Would let Murillo ruin my diet again 🇧🇷
After being cancelled by two different food tours for being a solo traveler and not meeting the threshold to constitute a tour, I was really lucky to have found this tour. Murillo really felt like someone I have met for many years and was extremely open to telling me about life in Rio and all the history around the streets we walk on. It was lovely to have shared the night hanging out over drinks and food. So many bars here have interesting stories and he seems to be an expert in recounting them. I would love to do a tour again if I’m ever in rio.
Murillo was amazing! We met in a hotel lobby and walked to local bars to try his favorite food and drink. He also gave us a history lesson of each location and explained why each was chosen. He was informative, engaging and fun! Highly recommended!
I had the best time on my Copacabana food tour with Murillo! It felt like a genuine local experience rather than a typical tourist trek. We made several stops, and at each one, Murillo shared great history and helped us order the most unique, delicious items. If you want to see the area through the eyes of a local, Murillo is your guy!
The food and bar tour was a great way to visit 4 distinct venues with different and tasty specialities from Copacabana. Murillo was easy to get on with and tailored the tour to meet everyone’s taste buds. He had great knowledge about the area and shared some stories and information whilst we walked around. Highly recommend this tour!
Murillo took us to 4 hidden gems of Copacabana! Exactly what I was hoping for with delicious food (and drinks) that I would never think of ordering. His vast knowledge of Brazilian history and culture added great value. Highly recommend this tour for everyone and anyone
Murillo gives a tour about a topic he is passionate about. The dishes we sampled were delicious and culturally significant. I would not have found any of these on my own.
This was such a fun evening out, and the perfect introduction to Rio on our first night visiting there. We had a great group who were all out-going and got along very nicely. Highly recommend as a fun way to acclimated to Rio!
Small group - great guide & food. An excellent evening all round. Murillo was a knowledgeable and personable guide.
We had a fantastic night visiting bars, eating food and trying drinks we wouldn't have gone near if we hadn't taken this tour. Murillo was an excellent host, never rushing us and not putting any limits on how much we ate or drank throughout the night. There's a reason each bar we visited is filled with locals - take the tour and you'll see.
