Our hike from Pico do Areeiro to Pico Ruivo was an unforgettable experience and one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Madeira! Our guide David was fantastic—friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the path, nature, and the island’s history. David made sure everyone in our small group felt comfortable and safe throughout the hike. During our way we are sharing interesting stories and facts about the island. The breathtaking views were made even more special by the guide’s enthusiasm and local insights. His positive energy and passion for Madeira were truly contagious. Thank you for an amazing day and for creating such wonderful memories. We would highly recommend this tour organized by Up Mountain Madeira , it’s an experience you shouldn’t miss! Cathleen and Roc
The hike was an amazing experience. No pictures can capture the awe inspiring views. In total it was about 6 miles. If you’re young and fit you should cope very well. I’m 65 years old and only average fitness. For me it was close to my physical limits but nevertheless managed it. It started at 6 degrees so a warm top and wind proof light coat was important. Also bring a rucksack, walking shoes, a torch, snacks and some water. I think it’s far better to have a guide. The route is incredibly well maintained and I felt safe at all times.
David was an amazing guide! Everything was well organized and great communication. Would highly recommend!
PR1 hike. David was excellent as our guide. He made sure to tell us exactly what to expect. The car driver though - not happy. His driving was not good. Often going very fast around the mountain and on the highway. Felt very unsafe. But the guide and hike was excellent.
Great guide! Helpful on the hike and very friendly. Nice to not have to worry about drive and knowledge about how to approach hike.
It was amazing!!!! My friend and I are not really into cardio so it was definitely an experience but it was incredibly worth it. David was amazing!!! He was very sweet, patient, and very informative!! Also he helped cheer us on when we got tired. 13/10 recommend

From pickup to drop off everything was exceptional. Our driver was early and respectful. He even sent a detailed list of recommended restaurants for our stay. Our guide was knowledgeable and very professional. His experience allowed us to move along the hike without and delays and past the crowds in the beginning. The sunrise did not disappoint. Both the sunrise and the hike were simply magical and unforgettable. We see why this is considered Madeiras most famous hike. We would without a doubt recommend our guides and this experience.
Overall day was a great experience! Tour guide, David, was very personable, knowledgeable and enhanced the overall hiking experience. PR1 tour was exhilarating and stunning. Supplemental PR11 tour was very nice as well. Highly recommend this tour company and this hike.
