Easy to book. Parking is worth it at £5 and you can stay parked until 5 pm on the day. We chose the guided tour and then had time to explore on our own. The guided tour was relaxed and informative. It was great to hear stories from the guide who had worked there. The prison is a maze! but we managed to see it all. Posters tell more details. There are toilets to use and a cafe ( But we didn't use this ) A good 3 hours. We managed to get a deal so even better value.

Excellent tour with the extremely knowledgeable Malcolm aided by Sasha. It was informative , entertaining and the many anecdotes that Malcolm told brought the whole thing to life. The prison has stopped in time at 2013 and even now is very intimidating. Excellent value and a great way to spend a couple of hours

Excellent one and a half hour tour with Sarah our tour guide, she was very knowledgeable and entertaining! We found it to be very good value for money and we really enjoyed finding out about prison like both for the inmates and staff.

Our Year 12 trip to Shrewsbury Prison was both educational and enjoyable, offering a unique insight into the history of the prison and the criminal justice system. The day began with an informative guided tour and educational talk led by knowledgeable staff. We learned about the prison's history, daily life for inmates, and how the justice system has changed over time. Walking through the original prison cells helped bring the information to life and gave us a much deeper understanding than we could gain from a classroom lesson alone. The guides were engaging and encouraged questions, making the experience interactive and thought-provoking. After the educational portion of the visit, students took part in an escape room challenge inside the prison. This was a fantastic way to end the trip, as it combined problem-solving, teamwork, and communication in a fun and exciting environment. Working together to solve the puzzles created a great sense of competition and allowed everyone to get involved. Overall, the visit to Shrewsbury Prison was an excellent balance of learning and entertainment. We thoroughly enjoyed the prison guided tour delivered by Malcolm. He was very informative and also had a good sense of humour, making him very engaging to listen to for 90 minutes. Hearing about his first hand experience as an ex prison officer really added to the tour. The tour was the highlight of our trip to Shrewsbury so we are certainly very glad we booked.

Had some free time so visited Shrewsbury Prison. Fascinating place. The staff are retired or ex prison officers and Malcolm was very approachable and a fountain of knowledge. It makes it more real and he was obviously very dedicated to providing the best experience and learning for visitors. Pierrepoint's deathmask and caste of his hands was an added surprise artefact and Sean Bean 'cell' is worth the trip alone ! Mary Hemel Hempstead
