For 400 år siden kom de første hollandske østindiske selskabskibe tilbage i Holland fyldt med det kinesiske blå og hvide porcelæn. Dette porcelæn blev meget populært blandt velhavende familier som de europæiske kongelige. Da importen af kinesisk porcelæn faldt som følge af borgerkrige i Kina, tog de hollandske keramikere mulighed for og udviklede deres egen version af dette blå og hvide porcelæn. Dette resulterede i fødslen af Delft Blue i Holland. I dag er Delft Blue en af de sande nederlandske ikoner.

Fra de cirka 32 keramikfabrikker, der blev grundlagt i 1700-tallet, blev Royal Delft, der blev grundlagt i 1653, den eneste resterende Delftware-fabrik i Delft. Det er en national arv og et must-see, når du besøger Holland! Her er den berømte Royal Delftware stadig helt håndmalet i henhold til århundreder gammel tradition. Når du besøger Royal Delft, opdager du den komplette historie og produktionsprocessen af Delft Blue og Royal Delft i en audiovisuel præsentation. Du er vidne til en maler på arbejdspladsen og introduceret til de to andre ikoner i Delft i temakamrene: spisestuen i Johannes Vermeer, den berømte 17. århundredes maler fra Delft og de kongelige kamre, der indeholder samlingen af orange keramik, der er produceret over århundreder for den hollandske kongelige familie. I museet kan du beundre samlingen af antikke og moderne stykker Delft Blue keramik og på fabrikken kan du være vidne til den autentiske produktionsproces. It is very expensive to buy a piece of pottery here. It is clean. There was only one worker when we were there on Saturday in the factory when we were there so we did not see any pottery being made other than someone painting on a piece/
As you visited on a Saturday, only a limited number of our production staff were working in the factory. We understand that this may have reduced the opportunity to see the full production process in action. All of our Delft Blue pieces are still largely handcrafted by skilled artisans, and we hope that a visit provides insight into the time, craftsmanship, and expertise involved in creating them. These traditional production methods are an important factor in the pricing of our products. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your visit.
It was extremely interesting to discover the origin of blue ceramics. How it has arrived in the country, how people have been trained to master the art, the evolution through the time.. another thing that was interesting was the urban part and a new part of the exhibit I also liked the fact I could discover it in both English and French (I’ve used the audio guide) Plus, we had the opportunity to watch the craftsman working, as we were walking through the museum /factory . I really enjoyed my visit over there and the kindness of the staff.

It was so cool! So many different pieces to look at and then to see how they are made. It was a once in a lifetime tour. Very enjoyable adn of course the shopping in the gift shop! So many things to choose from
