I 2011 organiserede Rotterdam kommune det første byinitiativ, et administrativt instrument til at stimulere administrativ innovation og borgerdeltagelse. før Anden Verdenskrig var der ingen Hovedbanegård, men der var fire stationer rundt om i centrum. I 1957 blev hovedbanegården åbnet på sin nuværende placering. I 2004 blev der påbegyndt en totalrenovering af hovedbanegården, i 2014 blev det nuværende slutresultat leveret. Den gamle station kunne ikke længere klare passagertilstrømningen.
Laurenskerk er den eneste rest af Rotterdams middelalderlige centrum. Laurenskerken er en krydsning mellem en halkirke (alle bygninger er lige høje) og en korsformet basilika (her er sidetårnene lavere end hovedtårnet). Kirken blev bygget mellem 1449 og 1525.
Den indvendige facade af Markthal er dækket af et 11.000 m² (to fodboldbaner) kunstværk af Arno Coenen og Iris Roskam, med titlen Hoorn des Overvloeds. Denne titel refererer til Cornucopia, et horn fra græsk mytologi, der symboliserer overflod og mætning. Kunstværket viser stærkt forstørrede frugter, grøntsager, korn, fisk, blomster og insekter. I baggrunden kan du også se Laurenskerk med tårn.
I middelalderen en af de 10 byporte, som Rotterdam havde her. I 30'erne voksede byen Rotterdam hurtigt, og porten stod i vejen, da man ønskede et bedre flow for den stigende trafik. Det blev besluttet at flytte porten omkring 100 meter (en nedrivning af porten mødte stor modstand). Under bombardementet i Anden Verdenskrig blev porten alvorligt beskadiget, et år efter bombningen blev porten revet ned, fordi den ikke længere kunne gøres færdig. Nogle prydværker fra den gamle port blev gemt og indarbejdet i væggene i bygningerne på hjørnet af rådhuspladsen.
Ikke meget af det historiske centrum er forblevet intakt under Anden Verdenskrig, men Oude Haven er heldigvis et af de historiske steder, der er blevet bevaret. I havnen ligger historiske, charmerende gamle både, mens man på kajerne finder en farverig blanding af bygninger.
Det hvide hus blev bygget i 1889 og med en højde på 43 meter den første skyskraber i Belgien, Holland og Luxembourg.

We enjoyed this walking tour with Jess as she gave us a good amount of Rotterdam history. She met us at the port and also brought us back with a few train rides and a good deal of walking along the way. We made a stop for coffee/latte, however there was no lunch or street food as advertised when we booked. The tour took about 4 hours.

the tour guide arrived over 15 min late and told us he lost his bag on the subway with his wallet, keys, and tickets. He could not take us on the tour. He left and came back 1/2 hr later saying that he accepted his fate and could start the tour but would extend 1 hr later than planned. We were very disappointed and did not get the tour. we called viator to ask for our money back. the local tour company did not answer their phone- we had hoped that they could send a replacement .

This was an extremely rare and unforeseen situation. Our guide unfortunately lost his bag on the metro while traveling to the meeting point. Despite the stress of losing his wallet, keys, and personal belongings, he came to meet your group, explained the situation transparently, and asked whether a short delay would be acceptable while he contacted the public transport company's Lost & Found service. After returning within the agreed timeframe, he was fully prepared to conduct your private tour and even offered to extend it by an additional hour so you would still receive the complete experience. Unfortunately, by then your group had decided not to continue. We also apologize that you were unable to reach us by phone. We missed Viator's call and immediately tried calling back, but were unable to get through the automated phone system. Jamal was worth a 5 star review for personality & knowledge. Really a great guide. Only reason for 4 star was that the tour was to include a street food lunch which we didn't get. There ended up being 8 of our friends that joined our group.

Mo was our guide and he was incredible. We knew very little about the city and learned so much. The tour was perfect for us. We had an infant with us and the timing and Mo, our guide, was a perfect fit. The tour size gave us time and attention to ask questions and not feel rushed. Jamaal was an excellent guide on this three + hour walking tour of Rotterdam. He was very knowledgeable, courteous, and prompt. We learned a great deal about the city, its history, people and culture. Two highlights that we especially enjoyed were the Cube houses and the Market Hall. I would highly recommend this trip, as well as Jamaal, if you would like to spend a few hours learning all about this historic and beautiful city!

Our time with Eleftheria...El was fantastic. She showed us her hometown of Rotterdam with such genuine enthusiasm that it made the experience even more enjoyable. She also introduced us to an amazing coffee shop, fantastic food, artwork, and beautiful buildings, which was a real highlight. She even scored us a water taxi to show us around via the water.
